Here's the problem:
We offer player X, who's deal runs out at the end of the season, a new contract. We place our valuation on him at that time. But how does X know what he's worth which, in reality, is what someone is prepared to pay for him. So, it is accepted that the agent is then allowed to go into the market place to find out whether the clubs valuation is correct or is below the going rate for X.
It happens at every club despite the fact that, officially, they are not allowed to do so - hence the cloak and dagger stuff.
I can be sure that every SL club has players already signed that they cannot announce - yet.
So, if we want to improve our side, then we must 'mix it' with the big boys - and that is not easy to do when you are Wakefield!
