| Keighley Cougars high-scoring stand off half Jon Presley has joined the Co-operative Championship One club’s staff as the Youth Worker for new ‘Sporting Chance’ programme.
Jon, who has been studying to be a Social Worker at Bradford College, has been appointed to figure head the club’s latest community initiative which is being run in conjunction with Incommunities PLC, the Bradford area’s biggest providers of social housing.
Jon will be combining his playing career with rolling out the ‘Sporting Chance’ programme that is designed to address some of the most serious young peoples’ issues in Keighley and District.
The Knottingley-based player, who has scored 21 tries for the Cougars so far this season, said: “I’m delighted to be working on this programme with the club and I’m looking forward to developing the initiative for the benefit of the young people in the town.
“It’s really exciting to be involved in such an important project and I believe that it’s going to make a difference in the area”.
Presley played for Featherstone Rovers and Sheffield Eagles before moving to the Cougars for the start of the 2008 season.
Helen Carter, the Keighley Cougars General Manager, said: “It’s a real asset having Jon to have the ‘Sporting Chance’ programme.
“Young people respond well to people of their own age and Jon also has the advantage of being a high profile sportsman in the Keighley so they will know all about him”.
