| This is why i'm glad Fergie has a backbone and won't take this player-power nonsense. As good as Beckham/Ruud et al were, nobody is worth keeping only for them to destabilise the whole club. Roman and all the glory fans down at the Bridge deserve all they get.

| Another beating for our (England) "Chosen One".
He clearly doesn't have a "plan B"
Still, as long as our "gentlemen" of the press want to sing "happy birthday to you" at press conferences, he'll still be their darling.
That's FOUR times this season he's had a good hiding, where does that justify his leading our international team. I'm baffled.

Interesting to see Chuckle Bro No 1, earlier today on Sky, when he was asked why United always have the better of Spurs, since PL began.
He simply said "they lack backbone, and we capitalised on it".....plus ca change

true - he doesn't have a plan B but he saved Spurs from relegation which I see as a major coup, as good as winning a trophy
so who would you suggest as a possible England Head Coach ? The FA have tried coaches of every type and profile so who would be the perfect choice ?

FWIW i wouldn't mind seeing Harry in charge. But, you're right, he has the 'right' accent, manages a Norf Lahndahn Clahb, and has Scotty in his team, so he is as you say, the media's wet dream. 1 trophy for him am i right? Steve McClaren has 2, and a UEFA Cup Final and we know how he was slaughtered after our pile of e team was taken to the cleaners by a superior Croatia side at Wembley in '07.

| Big win for Utd today, however is the premier league now so poor that Utd and city are both expected to win every game until the 'title decider' on April 30th. Surely both teams will probably drop the odd point or two before then?

There-in lies the problem. Being generous, England are the seventh best team in Europe. The sooner, as a nation, we accept that the better anmd our expectations can be realigned.

Bringing in Ronaldo & Rooney as replacements also helped.
Chelsea's basic problem is that the players they've brought in to replace the old guard, or at least make them less dependent on Terry, Lampard, Essien, Drogba etc, haven't worked out. The Torres buy has been a unmitigated disaster and only Mata is anything like the quality they need. Every time the manager tries to exert his authority, for example by dropping Lampard, the replacements just prove how much he's still needed.
AVB didnt seem to me to be up to the job, but I also think he's paid the price for all the average buys since Mourinho's early days. And to be honest I cant really see how a new manager will fare much better.

I think he's good. Looked a bit awkward when he first started but seems a lot more comfortable on camera now. As much as I didn't like him when he was on the pitch, I like him as a pundit.

He isn't actually that bad, but I don't think he's being totally honest when he's on. He's clearly trying/tried to make a different impression of himself compared to what most think, but, like Andy Gray in the past, his clear bias and loyalty will eventually come through.
But for now, he's been alright, said some decent stuff and isn't afraid to say something different (although his repetition of absolutely is a bit daft), but I wonder what will happen the longer he spends his time around crap pundits.

City fan's perspective.
I think he's superb.
He doesn't mince his words. When somebody's not "putting a shift in" he can tell, and he lets it known. Unlike the rest of 'em. He doesn't "pussyfoot" around bad play/decisions.
Yes, he's a bit "one eyed", but not to the extent of other pundits.
Will admit when his team is in the wrong.
Long may he continue

....He saved you from relegation????......He took over about 8 games into a season, it wasn't exactly a crisis when he took over....You simply had a top class squad that wasn't performing. you were NEVER going down with that squad.....There was more chance of Hodgson taking Liverpool down last year (and that was never going to happen either, despite what the Dalglish-obsessed kopites might have you believe).
Fair enough backing the twitchy-eyed one, but don't build up his CV into something it isn't.

| I think Gary Neville is very good as a pundit. I think there was an automatic dislike of the thought of him being so quickly propelled into punditry, but he's been a very good addition to a pretty dire pool of ex players.

| Quote ="Superbowl Scott"Harsh on AVB for me. I still think we'd make the top 4 if he was in charge. Unfortunatly the likes of Cole, Lamps, JT etc have managed to get rid. IMO AVB had a difficult job with the senior players, too many are too old now but they still expected to get picked every week.
Jose

Harsh on AVB??? He's done practically nothing right since taking over. He's made a joke of himself with the way he's fought with the media, his player relations have been abysmal, but the biggest failure has been the awful football and poor results. He's lucky to have lasted this long.
Cole has been poor for a lot of the season, but AVB kept picking him. Lampard has been sidelined, yet the results weren't good enough he's still managed to be top scorer. As Lampard said, if he was dropped and the team were performing then there's a good argument for him to be dropped, but he's been dropped for players clearly less effective than him. I think JT has performed really well this season, one of the few who have done their job.
We need Mourinho badly.
The mistake with AVB is to have appointed him way too early. I don't think it's a mistake to get rid of him now.

While I think we have fallen well behind Citeh and United, the clear fact is that we still have far more quality than West Brom, Birmingham, Everton, Swansea, Norwich, Villa, Fulham and Wigan. And AVB has failed to beat any of them since mid December.
And while poor results will always happen, no matter how good a side is, the fact is that we didn't really deserve much out of any of those games either.

| The problem is, LGJM; how many more managers can Chelsea go through and they not be good enough? I know you persist with the 'Mourinho should never have been let go', which in ways is right, he'd signed so many players to suit his style of play, I found it odd that Roman would suddenly want to support another manager. However, Avram Grant came in and taken you on to the verge of something special, despite Mourinho getting off to an average start that season. Next season, Scolari comes in, players don't like his training, players don't like him, sacked. Hiddink comes in, does really well again but doesn't want the job. Next, Ancelotti, wins two trophies, struggles in his second season and obvious signs are there that players have a problem with him, he's sacked, AVB comes in and the exact same problem has continued.
When will Chelsea grow a pair and support a manager over all of the players? I couldn't imagine any of Liverpool's players undermining Dalglish; why can't Chelsea's players treat every manager with the same respect that they had for Mourinho?
I seen enough with AVB's Porto side to know that AVB was an outstandingly talented manager; how many more will Chelsea go through before they realise that quite a lot of their players aren't good enough to compete at the top anymore? There are barely any players in Chelsea's side that convince me that they're consistently good enough these days. Off the top of my head, I'd say Mata and Sturridge are Chelsea's only high quality offensive players, whilst their defence has been a shadow of former seasons. When will Chelsea begin their clear-out and rejuvenate the entire first team squad? Or will he continue to spend £30m on firing and hiring managers hoping to get the best from high-value deadwood?

Why didn't Liverpool players/fans give Hodgson the same respect as they give Kenny/gave Rafa?
I don't think any club can support a manager when all of the players are against him.

| Said a while back AVB looked clueless, his body language in interviews was getting worse. That said why bother paying £13m for a young manager and ask him to re-shape the club then get shut 8 months later. His problem was he took on some of the so-called elite players and they have far too much power. RA has no balls so backed the players yet these are the ones that have under performed all year like Terry, Lampard and Cole. He was also saddled with Torres who RA bought.
God knows who will get it next, can't imagine Pep or Jose wanting it, Hiddink would have been good but I think he knows better. Moyes, Capello, Benitez?

We're still in the FA cup, CL and going for 4th spot. Its harsh because he hasn't had time to bring in the players he wanted, i agree the results havent been good enough of course but you cant give the manager a long contract with this 3 year plan and then sack him after 8 months.
We sure do need Jose back. When he parted with Chelsea that must have been the biggest mistake in the history off football for the club.
