| How good does the Juddmonte International look on Tuesday? Rip Van Winkle, Byword, Twice Over and Dick Turpin along with Cavalryman!
Big fan of Cavalryman with the Arc 3rd but think it needs 1m4f not 1mf2 at an E/W price ex Fabre horse Cutlass Bay looks decent if there is some soft in the ground cracking race though, already on Starspangledbanner @ 11/4 for Fridays big sprint race.

Fair play.
Out of interest, what do people consider to be their most successful day of gambling?
The most I've won in a day was when I piled stupid money on Rip Van Winkle to win the QEII last year.
Personal best though was two years ago at Newbury, this weekend just gone.
Was busy and off out for the day so instead of deciding which horses to back properly I just done a placepot which paid 82/1. Only had the pound on. Was bittersweet as I picked 5 winners out of 6. Oldrik got my placepot going by finishing 4th, then picked the next 5 that went in; Cry Of Freedom, Sixties Icon, Paco Boy, Underworld and Glen Molly.
Couldn't believe my eyes when I got home and checked teletext.

| Had a few and some shockers mind
Best one I remember was a Mr Thriller and Kauto Star double added Diamond Harry for a treble on the Betfair chase day last year and watching Kauto look like it got beat cue texts going round the bookies saying defo beat then the result of the photo.. cue mayhem in billy hills
Landed a 120/1 shot last year at Newmarket fell down the stairs after
Spirit River and Poet have been my best single wins this year
Oh and Makfi 40/1 off CP is the best tip I have ever seen/had made a stack off that

| Anybody else had a bet on the golf? Of the 4 i picked pre-tournament only Bubba Watson is in with a shout. A 6th place finish for him would be very nice. Had a little play on Furyk today as well @20s.

| I have Martin Kaymer in the golf - having had a 30minute lecture off a mate who's an expert on golf about how, why and when Kaymer will win a major after a night out in Dublin in Jan followed by watching him win the Qatar Masters I feel duty bound to back him

| Just goin back a page or two and yesterday's racing...I thought Jimmy Fortune gave Bated Breath an absolutely shocking ride. Just got back from hols yesterday and didnt have much time to look through all cards so just put a quick single on.
Was the type of ride that I reckon contributed to William Buick taking over from him at Gosden's. Bated Breath was hacking in behind and travelling aswell as anything he got caught out though behind horses as Ted Durcan on the winner and the runner up got through on the inside and kicked for home. By the time Fortune realised the pace had quickened and they had gone for home it was too late and he was caught out, the horse stayed on strongly but the front two stole a march and he couldnt recover.
Think he may be joining Richard Hills in the jockey's I won't back because they are useless!
Got the week off work aswell so really looking forward to York this coming week!

| Certainly didn't expect to see Goldi get beat, didn't back anything today though. Makfi back in style, proving his Ascot flop was genuinely due to him being off colour.
A couple of other nice days I can remember on the gambling front; Nearly two and a half years ago I had a £1 football accumulator, 8 teams, all won and it returned me £125.
Had a few singles and a treble on a couple of Paul Nicholls runners one Saturday about 18 months ago, Celestial Halo, Herecomesthetruth and I'msingingtheblues. All three won which got me a nice pot back. Although the last one would've got beat if the challenging horse hadn't made a hash of the last obstacle.
Backing Sea The Stars for last years Guineas at 9/1, and following him through out the season with some fairly big bets ensured a nice profit.
Couple more bad days;
Having seven hundred quid on Noble Alan only to see him fall, when the race looked a formality.
Having two hundred quid on Kauto Star in this years Gold Cup.
Having four hundred quid on Master Minded on his seasonal bow last year. Tried to recoup my losses the same day by smashing three hundred quid on a football match which ended as a draw - not what I picked.
Doing a lot better now though. Don't chase losses as much and have a lot more discipline. Laying on Betfair also helps.

Nothing that big but I've had a couple of nice returns off placepots. The best ones have been where I've had 5 fancied horses at the top of the betting either win or place, and then the other race the favourites are unplaced and I'd have something a bit more shrewd, which can swell the pot massively even if just one race goes the way of the bookies.

Cheers been a great few weeks just trying not to give it all back at York this week.
Juddmonte International Stakes - Cutlass Bay 33/1 E/W will be looking for a decent W/O price too
Very good race this and you could make a case for most of the field but like Cutlass Bay E/W who was unbeaten until that Curragh poor show when something was a miss, beat Cavalryman last year in a Group 2 then got an injury which ended its season and ruled it out for 11 months came by and beat two good types in Court Canibal an Celimene, then won a Group 1 win a clever win over Shalanaya with abit to spare who was 4 lengths behind Byword at Ascot, maybe it didn't go on the good to firm at Curragh so abit of rain might help, Godolphin have hit some form of late and Fallon who is getting his rides up lately has the spot.

| Just been taking a trip down memory lane thinking back to nice big wins I've had in the past. It seems from trawling the results archives that my best times were the mid 90's and it's remarkable I wasn't a millionaire around about 1996 with some of the bets I landed!
I particularly remember the day Bold Gait (12/1) won the Northumberland Plate.... I had it in a multiple bet of 8 horses in doubles, trebles, fourfolds etc...and had 6 winners a 2nd and an unplaced. If the unplaced horse had got placed I would have won thousands and thousands off the e/w acca part but still rmember drawing a tidy sum.
Both biggest priced winners I've backed were from back then, I had Our Rita ante-post at 40/1 for the Lincoln and it won at 16's and Moonax which I had a tenner e/w on at 66/1 when it won the St.Leger... I remember having to sneak out of my sisters wedding, between church part and reception to get the bet on...glad I did!
Also remember back then winning large amounts at Cheltenham with loads of singles and double bets on Alderbrook in the Champion hurdle and Master Oats in the Gold Cup. Absolutely loved Stormin Norman Williamson back then and he was superb on those two.
A £50 double back then was also a highlight returning £975! At the time I was living with 3 mates. I was paid out in cash and stuffed the money in an envelope down the sleeve of my coat and when I got home I just pulled the wad of cash out of the envelope and just threw it all in the air in the front room to say we partied hard for a week or two is an under-statement!
To say I've been betting as regularly and as long as I have it's quite surprising I've only managed to get 4 winners in a Lucky 15 twice, the most recent time being by far the best...
It was one of those strange betting moments and probably one of the reasons we all love the game so much at times when things like this happen. It was a Friday afternoon and I was on my way home from work, I just called in to put my weekend football bet on as there was a game on the Friday night I wanted to include in my acca. I knew how much I was putting on the football bet and got my loose change out of my pocket to see how much spare change I had... I managed to scrape £6 so thought I'd put a 40p Lucky 15 on the next 4 races while I was in there for a little fun before going home, it went like this...
The first leg was Trap 4 in the 5.07 at Swindon at 9/4 and the dog came very, very late and just managed to get up on the line. The second was in a NH Flat race and was Denis O' Reagan for Howard Johnson First Stream a 6/1 shot, it looked in trouble a furlong or two out but Denis conjured a late effort form it, again to just get home on the line.
The 3rd leg was Trap 2 in the 5.17 at Monmore at 3/1 this time it was never in doubt as the dog blasted from the boxes and never saw another dog and winning very easily. The horse that brought the bet up was Green Velvet a 6/1 shot in a 5/6f sprint at Lingfield and was exactly the type of winner you would like to bring such a bet up. Travis Block had the horse cruising just in behind the leaders and when he pressed the button with just over a furlong to go the horse shot clear in a matter of strides to win very easily..
So, with a loose bit of change taking in 4 consecutive races I managed to turn £6 into just short of £600. With getting 4 winners in a Lucky 15 being such a rarity the woman in the shop printed off the payout receipt and gave me it as a memento and I keep it in my wallet to this day!
Happy days!
