Small grumble. At the game tonight I (and a lot of folk round me) struggled to keep up with the identity of the players as the ball was being thrown around quickly due to the gold squad numbers on the back of the shirts.

To me it’s an awful design and needs to revert to bold black as soon as possible.

I believe the gold numbers is because of being the champions, suspect that the kit design had already been made with black numbers in mind.

They show up on the TV though but I agree they are hard to follow on the pitch

Do folk not just recognise the players by that round thing which is sat on their shoulders? Or their body size & build? Or their running style?
The numbers aren’t great but unless your a commentator why would you need to look at them?

What about new fans, and away fans who may not recognize some of the less well known players in the squad ?
Next Sunday I am bringing four people who have never been to a RL game in their lives, I'm really looking forward to telling them who all the players are !!!!

Agree. They were awful (and this is coming from people who have watched the team for years/decades.

I understand the premise of the gold numbers, and they would work great on the away shirt.

Simple fix for the home shirts would be to outline each number in black - If the club doesn't want to buy all new numbers, use a black permanent marker.

Ridiculous that nobody thought that a light gold on a pure white background might not be a great idea.

What difference does it make how long or how often you've been going?

If anything, those who go most often have MORE right to point out the mistake.

Plenty of people rely on the numbers, particularly when we're attacking/defending the far end of the pitch, with the player's backs to us.

The difference in my mind was that those who go week in week out would surely recognise our own players, by their features.

Agreed, or have an almost solid black with a slim gold strip in the centre if they want that.

The black edging did nothing to help the visibility from the South Stand yesterday, and I didn't even notice until Sarge and Bullock came in the SS Bar after the game.
