I get the idea behind the experimental kit, to mix it up from cherry and white hoops and hopefully increase sales, but how do the designers get this soooo wrong!
I've just come across a general website with standard design shirts and colours to choose from, and just had a 15 minute bash at coming up with some 'experimental' kits, which I think are all far better than anything we've been given from the so called professionals.
If a fan can do this in 10 minutes, with no design skills and using general standard templates, how do the designers we employ get it so badly wrong like this yrs kit and the 2011 one.
Have a look and see what you think. I think everyone of these kits move from the normal design, yet don't look like 'run in the wash 2011' shirts or 'bedsheet 2014' shirts, as they still retain being wigan!
Come on IFL....pull your finger out for the next experimental kit in 2017, or just don't employ designers and let the fans have a bash and put it to vote?

| they do look good digitally but when you make them and the color, shading and shadows will look nothing like that. Also one of them looks like a saints shirt and the other a leigh.

| This comes up every single year. Why blame the designers?
The designers work to a brief and then they'll present their designs to the club.
The club will then give them feedback and they'll go away and look a what the club have suggested.
The club will then pick the design they want, perhaps with a further few more tweaks.
At no point do ISC say "We've designed this kit and it's what you're having".
You don't like the kit? Blame the club.
I've had a look at your designs too. The top right looks ok but I'm sure if the club put any of those into production there'd be some amateur designer who'd come on here and say exactly the same thing as you.
Design is subjective and IL has different tastes to you.

Just how many permutations are possible with our shirts?

Don't want anything with a "V" on it. Must admit that some of your designs are far better imo than the new one for this season. Reckon IFL, great club chairman that he is, has poor taste in sports wear. Bet he wears purple and green socks with his sandals.

yep, theres only so much you can do with cherry and white.
I like the OPs idea of letting the fans have a go. Maybe a comp spread over the whole of 2016 to give plenty time to get it right. Let club select a shortlist of say 5 ? and put then to a vote via internet warriors fan pages or official site. A bit controversial, but maybe restrict it to ST holders to a. keep outsiders from voting in the worst shirt , and b. maybe an added incentive to buy a ST

| I'll wait and see if it sells well.
Then I'll know if IL achieved 99% of probably what he set out to achieve?
PS
I'm pretty sure that if I knocked up some designs that [size=150I[/size liked then it would be better than something someone else did.
As the say going goes, "you can't please all of the people all of the time".

No, but then again I wouldn't have thought passing on sales targets to the likes of me were high on his list of priorities?
Maybe to some (on here and other wigan RL fan sites) that may be seen as me not questioning everything the club does when I should do?
Maybe that makes me less of a fan than some who seem to analyse every tiny detail of every statement and in most cases seem to pour scorn over anyone who tries to be positive in lieu of any facts to contrary whilst themselves seem to twist the negatives out of every situation that arises.
Maybe I have taken your question out of context (although I seriously doubt it) and in fact you were asking me a serious question rather than being flippant?
So in response I'll say this
Do you want me to ask him?
Or
Do you want me to do something else that may convince you of my earlier statement? If so let me know and I'll see if I can accommodate.
I was thinking that I'll wait and see what the official reports out of the club say.
Something like "sales are going well" or "up on previous years" or best selling shirt (like the last experimental kit design 3 years ago IIRC.).
But then again how silly of me
I mean I forgot, I'm not supposed to believe anything like that am I?
Instead there'll be a conspiracy of some sort meaning that all the good news is a smokescreen for a dastardly plot by IL!
He's probably got young children locked up in a workhouse making them and feeding them no more than gruel and water.
He then imports them in using illegal immigrants to smuggle them in to avoid paying certain taxes and then fakes the selling of said shirts as a cover up to some kind of illegal scam that he uses to launder his ill gotten gains through whilst on top of that burning said shirts and being the 2nd biggest contributing factor to the break up of the Ozone layer. Probably for the best burning them anyway as absolutely no-one likes the damn shirt anyway as some posters have said so, so I guess that means everyone?
You all may be giggling and thinking I'm joking but remember there were rumours like this last year and remember how true they were and how last year turned out!
Anyway, to all you happy clappers out there remember, it's like the matrix and not all you see is true.
We didn't win the double last year and all those rumours about certain players and coaches and chairmen and the club falling apart did happen!
One day you will wake up and see the truth and when you do IL will be in his Bond villains lair with his rocket on standby to take him and all the happy clappers to the Death Star with him where he can continue his evil doings on the unsuspecting fools of this world, all from the money he's pilfered from the club over the last 6 horrible years that we've all had to endure.
Anyway, Happy New year Dave and don't forget, let me know how you want me to measure the success of this new shirt and I'll see what I can do for you

Snap!!
I too like the new shirt. It is a clean and stylistic design worthy of the 21st century. I'm afraid yours haven't changed much from the 19nd.

And when the voting was over, and the design chosen, and put on sale, people would still post on here saying.....it would be better with/without a collar, thin/thicker hoops, with/without piping, more/less white, I would buy it if......, as someone else said you'll never please everyone, lets just go with this design for a season.

| I saw the shirt for the first time last week when I was in the Grand Arcade. My first reaction was a nice design utterly spoiled by the sponsors ( for want of a better description) label. It just looks as if someone has stuck an advertising flyer on it and destroys any artistic merit the shirt might have had.

| Terrible kit design and the training gear isn't any better. The training t-shirts look absolute pants compared to what some of the Aussie team tops look like - AND it's the same manufacturer. Really need to step it up next season - looks like 5mins thought went into it this year...

| Mine arrived today after what seemed like eternity. It looks a lot better than it does in the picture anyway that's for sure. I fail to see why they never carried the diagonal strips all the way round the shirt rather than having the silly white back. Glad it's just for one season.
