| IMO something that Wigan Warriors has badly needed for the past few seasons is a true utility player. A player that can slot into many positions without disrupting the whole team. The last player of this type was Cameron Phelps although his defence let him down.
In the past we have always had players like Sam Panapa who could play wing, centre , half back or loose forward with equal skill.
I certainly think we missed a great chance when Stephan Ratchford when he went to Warrington he is making a really good utility player at the Wolves.
Saints have Lance Ohaiha who has played in six different positions in the NRL.
When we lost a key play last season we either shuffled the team around or played a youngster with little experience, where as a tried and tested utility player who could play from the bench would have plugged a weakness in our squad.
Who at other clubs do you consider to be a utility player and is there any player available who would fit this criteria?

I always thought Paul Sykes was a decent bet in this roll, can play full back, centre, half back & loose forward, also a decent goal kicker, a good squad player, now 31, and has signed for Wakefield, may have been worth a punt a few years back.

| Jordan Thompson at Cas has played fullback, wing, centre, second row and loose if I'm not mistaken. Decent young player in my opinion and was a good performer for the England Academy side that beat the Aussies in 2010.

| I'd continue to monitor Lee Gaskells situation at Saints and see what happens with him under Nathan Brown. I rate him highly as a halfback but that lad could slot in at centre or fullback IMO without much fuss.
In the days of the salary cap utility players are worth their weight in gold. We don't really have one at the minute. We have a few lads who I'm confident could do a job in a couple of positions but certainly no player like Ratchford who could play 1-7 and even have a crack at 9.

| We aren't really too bad for cover if Wane will give Murphy, Powell and Logan Tomkins more experience during the season. It's not like we don't have loads of unimportant games to play them in! The fact that he didn't do this last year led to us playing O'Loughlin at 6 and 9, and Murphy not being prepared to step up when he needed to. I also feel Goulding would provide better wing cover than either Thornley or Gelling.

Great player. What a difference a player like that would make to our squad. I don't think there are many players around like Sam these days, but then there never were, he was a special talent - probably not world class in any one position but very, very good indeed in 5 or 6.

| Best utility player in SL, Richard Whiting. Played every single position for Hull FC and every single one to a high standard. Never gives anything less than 100%
