| I thought that corner of Wigan fans looked great last night, no need for the flare but the flags etc were good. A lot of the NRL clubs have had the 'flag gangs' for years.

| I'll be honest - the flare/smoke bomb really annoyed me as people off our coach will tell you. We can't spend time talking to the clubs which is all done by SC and talking with stewards saying we'll wave flags when the teams come out or when we score, none of our flags are offensive blah blah and then let a smoke bomb off. If it carries on the flags will be banned from everywhere (maybe even them who wave them) and the whole thing is finished. I've calmed down since it happened but it spoiled what up until then was a good atmosphere imo.

| I think the flags look great and really add to the atmosphere. At the wcc especially they looked absolutley fantastic. I dont agree with people saying the flag wavers see themselves as being better fans than anyone else, for me thats a ridiculous thing to say and just not true. Lettin off flares and smoke bombs or whatever however is probably going a bit to far. Keep it up with the flags and you cant go wrong. We have something that looks great especially when the dw is decorated which i dont think any other clubs can emulate. So lets not spoil it.

| Only trouble with what the ultras did at Craven Park will almost certainly all wigan fans my have there bags searched at quite a few grounds to stop them bringing them into stadiums in future ,,,,,making going to away matches awkward to say the least for the descent and sensible wigan supporters

| i think it looks great, like someone has already posted, the skills might not be a great idea, as they do give off the wrong impression, especially for the "younger" chav section of our supporters, unfortunately it gives them something to brand themselves with when causing trouble.
Who knows mayb we can drive these types of "fans" out of the club by getting behind the brigantes (or however you spell it) and support them in their endeavors to create a fun colorful atmosphere.

Totally agree. It's good that folk feel enough about their Club to take the time to make/buy them, and they add a bit of colour to the game.
Letting off a smoke bomb or flare at a match is never a good idea... ... it makes it harder to lob yer bog brush in the right direction.....

| Why the fans of clubs in any sport would want to call themselves after a brand of jam-rags is beyond me. Why not call yourselves 'The Wigan Lilets' or the 'Ancient & Loyal Tampax's' ?
Cringe.

I'm still quite annoyed over the flares/smoke bombs and I wasn't even there I just had your rant over the phone
If I had gone and saw who did this I would report them to the club and see them handed a ban from RL games - things like that aren't needed and will ruin the reputation of those that put all the hard work in, fundraising, time etc for the flags and inevitably the reputation of our good club.
I don't care if your friend of foe; I'm not emjbarrased to say I will report you if I see you.

| Personally I can't see why people get so bothered about a smoke bomb. Not like it did any harm or is likely to do any harm to anyone. The flags are more dangerous!

not always true,
smoke bombs have been known to induce panic attacks, and in an environment like a stadium this can lead to all sorts of problems, for example heart attacks, loss of sight temporarily due to panic and or irritants, reduced visability on stairways,They are also a fire hazard
Need i go on

| Smoke bombs and flares are supposed to be banned from all stadia in England arent they?
If they are then there must be some reason for this?

| You could say that about anything within a stadium though. On Friday there were over a hundred people stood in the corner near the toilets, most of them bladdered and pratting about. I haven't got a problem with this either but if your talking about Health and Safety then there would probably have been a list of issues concerning that corner.

The point though is that it isnt illegal to drink and stand near stairs at a game your endangering your own safety there but a smoke bomb endangers other people's health. If they are seen at Wigan then I hope those using them are banned from the stadium indefinitely it is not something we need in our game. They have the problems with this in football and I dont want some Wigan fans being blamed for starting it in RL.

| Take from the Public Order Act 1986
2A. — (1) A person is guilty of an offence if he has an article or substance to which this section applies in his possession—
(a)at any time during the period of a designated sporting event when he is in any area of a designated sports ground from which the event may be directly viewed, or
(b)while entering or trying to enter a designated sports ground at any time during the period of a designated sporting event at the ground.
(2) It is a defence for the accused to prove that he had possession with lawful authority.
(3) This section applies to any article or substance whose main purpose is the emission of a flare for purposes of illuminating or signalling (as opposed to igniting or heating) or the emission of smoke or a visible gas; and in particular it applies to distress flares, fog signals, and pellets and capsules intended to be used as fumigators or for testing pipes, but not to matches, cigarette lighters or heaters.
(4) This section also applies to any article which is a firework.".
so flares defiantly are not legal at any sporting ground in the uk,
as for the smoke bombs i guess this comes under the above points, but if not then it is up to the local law enforcement, some clubs may allow it.

Based on your poor grammar and text-speak style of writing I'm guessing your off school for Easter.
And as for the Saints comment, you need to double your efforts in GCSE Geography young man/lady.

| The club have asked people not to use any form of smoke bomb or flare within any ground unless already authorised. If anything similar happens at an home game then you can pretty much wave bye bye to the whole thing.

Rugby is supposedly about a family warm atmosphere, skulls on flags and smoke bombs are designed to intimidate.
Why people can't just turn up, sing and enjoy the game i don't know.
