With the final spot going to another big prop from the French League?
Could have been so much better too if Guisset didn't retire and Mounis, McGuire and Rinaldi were all available.

Who else would you have that's available? Westwood may have a few flaws in his game but he has represented well for England when he has played and is a workhorse that's needed, just like Locky is for Wigan. I'd much rather have Westwood in over Wilkin, wouldn't you?

After the World Cup farce last year, good club level coach but taken GB further back than BN, we were in our best position in a long time when Waite left, since then we have done nothing but go backwards, the Wales game was a new low for me as an England fan, I expect the France game will be not much better but in the eyes of some im sure a victory will do.
Either way i will not be watching.

I expect a victory V France and then 2 lessons in RL from the Aussies and Kiwis.
I agree, David Waite was a very underated coach.

If i was MM or IL i wouldn't want my best young talent in years being round such a farce of a coach or squad.
The facts are there for everyone to see
Sam= Young player of the season
Dream team 6
MOM with three tries and numerous assists last week
Current Wigan Stand off
Myler=???????? No game time for the last two months and no form going back even further than that.
I agree with Dave O we've gone back to the Brian Noble days of sticking with a coaches favorite players over good young talent! Harris at Stand off over an Leon Pryce anyone?
It's an absolute joke'"
But Nobles been proven right with that one. Pryce is not a stand off as has been proved over the last few years.

I can tell you the ones he has given a chance:
Sam Tomkins, Joel Tomkins, Paul Prescott, McIlorum, Shaun Ainscough, Lee Mossop, O'Carroll and Chris Tuson.

Pryce when he first moved to Saints formed a very strong HB combo with Long! We would have stood more chance With either Pryce or even McGuire than Harris! Noble ruined a very, very good GB team there IMO it was certainly the strongest we've had in a good long while

Instead Leeds Rhinos stand off Danny McGuire and Wolves signing Richie Myler reprise the half-back pairing that worked so well in England’s 66-12 victory over France in Paris last June.
“I know if we opted for Sam Tomkins in that position he’d do a good job but we believe the combination of Richie Myler and Danny McGuire is right for this match,” said Wolves chief Smith.
“It’s an exciting squad and a squad we think can do the job for us on Friday night.
“There is some terrific talent in there, a few new faces and some old heads. I’m really pleased by the squad we’ve selected.”
Smith said he was sure Tom Briscoe would build on his strong performance against Wales and voiced his confidence in Kyle Eastmond, who is one of three St Helens players on a strong interchange bench.
“Kyle is comfortable in a lot of positions and he’ll bring versatility from the bench. If we get injuries or somebody is not at their best we know we can introduce Kyle,” said Smith.
“He’s very good at running with the ball and taking the opposition on. I’m looking forward to seeing him in his first game.”

So all in all TS picks Myler because he played well last time out vs France.
T Briscoe is rewarded with a place for his performance against Wales.
??? What more could Sam have done in his performance not to be rewarded????
The man is an idiot...

Nobby was dead keen to get all of the above involved wasn't he? injuries / drug bans played no part in it whatsoever. I was embarrassed early in the season when we had no british backs but if thats what floats your boat we'll replace Sam with another aussie. Dave is spot on.

Sam made more starts and played more games than Tim Smith even before he went home, leaving Tim Smith to flutter away in the reserves. Care to explain that one?

| The ONLY way I can see to justify his decision would be that maybe he thinks Sam is a stand-off and Mcguire is better in that position and he was going to play Myler scrum-half regardless.
Maybe he thought although Tomkins played well against Wales everything he did was off the cuff rather than a planned move. Perhaps he thinks a Myler McGuire combination willl give the team more structure. The team did look a little disorganised and clueless in attack against Wales.
I don't necessarily agree with the above, just trying to get into T Smith's brain to try and figure out what the hell he's thinking!

Well we have no chance of pulling off a planned move against the aussies anyway, in games against them we must play the situation.

Which other british clubs have played with a full set of backs from outside the UK? How many other clubs come from an area with such a name in rugby and ready supply of youth talent? My argument is not that we should have a Wiganer in every position at all but to say Nobby was eager to get the young players in the first time is nonsense. Everyone knows that certain players have to do far more wrong to get dropped than others which might explain our poor finish in the league perhaps? And by the fact that Nobby is now not at Wigan anymore perhaps IL agrees.

Your talking utter garbage, we have as many youngsters coming through in the first team squad as any other team, you say Noble only played youngsters because of drug bans?? ok then that gave Mossop a chance, and obviously Sam got his chance because Smith left, so how do you explain O Carroll, Prescott, Ainscough and McIlorum all been given a chance then?? We have a very bright future with our young talent, stop whinging about it!!!!

Correct, of course we could go back to the Millward days if the poster wants and burn them out to early and completely ruin them! Noble has brought the youngsters through correctly and I'm sure Maguire and Wane will be greatful for having so many to work with and further develop them just like Noble developed the ones Millward almoast ruined.

We will all be thanking Noble in a few years time for what he did actually achieve at Wigan, he's brought certain youngsters on leaps and bounds and left the club with a real platform to work on and a well balanced squad. There's no doubt it was time for a change coaching wise, but Noble has left this club in a ten times better state than when he first came.

If you'd quoted the right bit you'd note I said injuries/drug bans.
Daddy's gone to Wales now Nobby lovers.. You all seem a bit obsessed never mind calling DaveO. Will be interesting to see what will happen if we play some amazing rugby next year and don't lose to teams like Celtic and Hull FC and maybe even win a trophy... You may say you're pleased with the new coach but you'll NEVER admit IL was right not to extend Nobby's contract. Meanwhile I'll be able to travel from Hull to Wigan for home games with a pretty good chance that I'll be seeing the best Wigan team available on any given day.
btw is the rogue club free to join? Must be a glowing endorsement of mediocrity.
PS I'm bored of this subject but given your reaction to a perfectly normal post by DaveO I assumed you were too. Obviously I was wrong.
