Quote ="sergeant pepper"You want to put a scratch side out vs Saints at home?
Why do we need to rest players? We've got two weeks rest in the next 6?
What we need is a constant team playing week in week out togthadverts/d ... ?adid=59er and building up confidence with back to back wins including Saints.
That's common sense not resting a load of players and risking losing the final league game of the season going into the playoffs.'"
I would rest certain players.
Sam, Carmont, Finch, MM, Mossop and Lockers. Most of them have played almost every game this season. I am not talking about doing a Widnes as so many on here actually agreed with Wane at the time. That would give players like Fielden, Murphy, Tomkins (L), Gelling a run out as they will or might need to come in during the play offs and i do think they needs a run out in the side.

| The only way we should rest anyone is if they're carrying an injury, in which case that's just common sense.
When we kick off against Hull KR we'll have played once in the 21 days before the game, and that's plenty of rest.

| I'm not sure why anyone is surprised.
The equation is quite simple.
GF > CC > Hubcap
CC used to be the "big" event of RL. It isn't anymore since the GF has replaced it as the premier knockout competition.
The regular SL season? Well unless you are a club on the margins, it really means very little at all.

| Look at the long term.
Wire still had five 30+ers in their team tonight (they rested the others)
Their younger players failed big time.
The Wigan U20 team wouldn't have got beaten like that.
How do they fill those gaps?

| I shall assume the Rugby League community will be out in their droves tomorrow casting aspersions on Wire for "disrespecting" London and turning out a weaker team.

No but it is still a trophy and tonight result means we are set for at least 4 trophies in the last 3 years - something that would have been unthinkable a few years ago.

Warrington: Riley; Evans, Bridge, Atkins, Williams; Ratchford, Myler; Morley, M Monaghan, Wood, McCarthy, Waterhouse, Grix.
Replacements: Cooper, Blythe, Hill, Solomona.
That side should have been capable of beating London.

It certainly is and to wrap it up vs Saints makes it even sweeter.
I'd even try to lock the away end up so they've gotta watch it.

as a long term wire fan and season ticket holder i just felt it was also *disrespecting* to all of the wire fans who travelled down, what a waste of money!ive seen quite a few games like this one this season, too many in fact!the rl really do need to make changes and make sure winning the league actually means something otherwise the fans will stay away in their droves! well done on winning the league by the way, hope we meet you guys in the g/f!

| I don't understand those who are claiming the LLS is nothing, I think it's a great achievement and some thing the players and fans should be hugely proud of. Many Wigan fans considered this season to be one of transition with so many key senior players leaving at the end of last year but we have almost cemented our place as the best team during the full regular season, I for one will be very proud of our boys if we go on to lift the shield, it would have been well earned.

Finishing top is a tremendous achievement that should receive more credit and recognition than it does. As opposed to getting a few grand and a crappy little dinner plate/hubcap they should get a proper trophy and a far better chance of winning the GF than the teams below them. You should truly have to implode to fail to win the GF from 1st. As it is, finishing top is no different really to finishing 2nd other than said crappy shield, a few grand and doing your opponents team talk in the semi final. If I was running the game, I would award the current SL trophy to the team that comes first. The GF winners would get a remake of the old Championship trophy, and it would be a top 5 system.
If we were to finish top but not win the GF then I'd see this season as a failure. There are two trophies worth winning and we won't have won either. It won't be us in the WCC or referred to as Champions and it won't be us shown lifting the CC on BBC every time there is Rugby League on. Winning the shield and seeing it as a success for a club like us would be like Man Utd claiming winning just the Community Shield as a success despite not winning the FA Cup, PL or CL.
It should be a success but the fact is.........it isn't.

Absolutely. The issue is though that the rules were in place BEFORE the season started. Everyone knew this before a ball was kicked in anger.
Winning the shield, under the current rules means very very little. You can argue all you like about whether it should mean more, but currently it does not.
If it did mean more, then Warrington would have won tonight.

I do agree with you I think the season as it is would be deemed a failure if we don't reach the Grand Final mainly because we'd get zero recognition for a great achievement. I am pro play offs I only wish those in charge would lay more prestige on the LLS.
