Reminds me of Josh Charnley having to remove “Wigan Warriors Fan” from his twitter bio the day he signed for Wire

| Honest answer. If you were George would you sign for Warrington or Wigan? I'd sign for Warrington all day at this precise moment. More money (considerably reported) in a side always being ambitious or a club very very quickly on the slide, not knowing the coaching arrangements and being lined to sub standard players. We all see the same media reports. I have a feeling he will be in primrose and blue next season. I hope i am wrong but we need to back a Williams signing with a coaching announcement and new props. If he does sign for Wire it's indicative of were we are as a club at the moment. If players are rejecting us and signing for sides that haven't won the league in donkeys then we really are in a bad way.

This.
I got slated for it last week, but I'd also stick by/return to the guys who saw me right previously.

If he doesn’t, as the poster above says it’ll be for cash. And I wouldn’t blame him either.
Also if he doesn’t it opens the door here for someone to take the bull by it’s horns and stake his claim for Hastings’ shirt. I’ll be bitterly disappointed, probably criticise the club in some fashion but we’ll move on. Sam Tomkins for his chance due to an injury, many others because a player we thought may re-sign (contract) didn’t have left.

That's not the question I asked tho.
What happens if he does sign for us? Will we still be signing dross, or be a club on the slide?

You’ve blatantly ignored what I said.
I said in my original post ‘GW aside’. Your question therefore was already answered before you asked it.

Me? I’d sign for Wigan.
But you’re asking me. I’m going to give you an answer from the heart. It was never going to be Warrington.
Me, you and anyone else can’t put ourselves in GW’s shoes. What’s on offer financially? What’s my current status? Do I want a new challenge away from an old challenge? What’s best for me?
Just a handful of questions he’s asking himself (probably). I’d love GW back at Wigan. It would be a tremendous signing but if he doesn’t we’ll move on as a club as we did when he left.

Not sure how you can separate the two though? "GW aside" is like having your cake and eating it.
Fans are happy to say we're a club on the slide, will they then admit we aren't if we sign Williams? Or are we hedging our bets and taking pot shots anyway?

I’ve never said we’re a club on the slide. I said we could be if we’re looking at signing players like Gelling/Thornley/Richardson. Big difference.
I’m hardly having my cake. You know you can criticise and praise (rumoured) signings. You don’t have to be unilaterally critical or praise them all? Right?

But you have to surely see that they are part of one recruitment plan, that needs to be judged as a whole. I'd happily take Thornley and Miski if that means we sign Williams and a good prop. They are all linked imo - one leads to the other i.e money saved on one, let's us get the other.
You want to say that "outside of GW" we're signing dross. That "dross" let's us sign Williams.

Or maybe after looking at the state of Wigan’s squad he feels he will have a better chance of winning silverware at a different club?

I’d sign for my hometown club which I know inside out, who came within whiskers of winning the grand final last year and are joint top having won 7 out of 8 games so far in the league.

I have never been as negative about Thornley as many on here but it still seems a strange one. When you consider that Warrington always seem to have deeper pockets and more pulling power than we do the quality of those linked to us always seems unexciting. I hope that the journey men players will be backed up by a couple of world class signings, otherwise we would be trying to race to the bottom. Everyone can see that something needs to change in our recruitment and we cannot replace five props with one untried body so I would expect some deals to be in the pipeline that will impress a little bit more.

| As has been mentioned before in Rugby league circles there is a worrying lack of of quality players available and to be honest Thornley is not a bad player by a long way people have to accept this is the situation at the moment. Think Thornley will do well for us . Certainly better than what Gildart is offering at the moment

Why would they announce the signing at DW on Friday when he has signed for the Wire, only joking but it is getting on a bit since it was known he is coming back over here. Clearly more complicated than just announcing going back to you as some have said you have cap space but maybe not the financing or he has signed for Wire and they trying to sort out where he can play for rest of the season. Anyway someone on our board as said he saw on Sky that it will be announced on Monday where he is going.

Agreed, I expect him to sign short term somewhere then for Wire next year.

| Almost all of you but one are looking through Cherry specs, if Luke you said GW was so hell bent of being a Wigan player, and playing for his town, he wouldn’t have left Wigan in the first place.
In contrast, Sam Tomkins rejected the team he loved to play for Wigan a second time. I’m pretty sure he now considers that was a big mistake.
