Going off our first couple of games we can probably afford to be a bit more patient then first thought on the signings front. We may as well sit on our cash and wait for a player or two that will really add something to the team/squad. There's always a player or two over here and in the NRL that becomes available mid season (Lunt and Matty Smith last season for example) so to be in a place where we're ready to make a move his very handy.

Now if only Cross would fall out with Betts!!

I agree. I wouldn't play our hand too soon with the extra cash floating around. It always seems like every year that someone suddenly becomes available and we should put ourselves in a position to capitalise if need be.

If it's a choice between Paul Wood or keeping cash spare in case someone else becomes available I'd sooner wait.

he went fairly well in the NRL but became part of a long list of flops in the super league, maybe recent events could explain some of them on that list

The players we need to concentrate on signing first of all are H and Tuson for next year.

We need to keep our squad together and these guys are off contract. H will be sought after, especially by NZ Warriors and Salford with their cash floating around. He is a salford lad.

H will stay, I believe he is due for a testimonial soon??

If only you'd posted this sooner. It wouldn't look so much like hindsight then.

I'd be making it clear if I were Lenagan that for him to be granted a testimonial he'd be expected to sign a long term deal.

Anything else would be unacceptable in my opinion.

But isn't the RFL that grant the testimonial not the club? Why would a player sign a long term deal in return for a testimonial? What happened if his testimonial fell when he was 32-33?

If that what he does then i say good luck to him. He has been a great player recently and has been exemplary in his conduct both on and off the field. If a person like HH says that he will stay for his testimonial season but will then go to the NRL it would be a deserved testimonial for a player that is getting better and better.

So you'd blackmail a player who's been with us for 10 years into signing on for us?
The testimonial is a positive event to reward and recognise a players dedication and achievement at their club. Regardless of what he's to do next it's about what's he done for our club.
