I think we'll break 10k by the start of the season to be honest, whilst it's behind the club target of 11k it's static on last season and with the current economic climate you can't really grumble. Hopefully our overall average attendance won't suffer and our marketing department will have their work cut out this season.
Positives - Widnes in (possibly Big One 4), should be a great crowd if promoted right.
Negatives - Stains at home last game of season. Who thought of this? Could be a disaster if the playoff places are already set. (Although if we go into the game as playoff leaders needing to win the game, then it could sell out).

| If the playoffs are set then the crowd could drop, but I think we'd be more likely to suffer if it was the 300th time we'd played them like last season.
As last season showed, people don't attend the playoffs. I think the paying public would rather watch this than a meaningless game the week after (presuming we are in the top 4)

So would I. We have won two major trophies over the last two years, I expected the number of season ticket holders to fly up.
I think our average could go down due to saints being the last home game, what a rubbish fixture list. Why have such a huge game as the last game in the regular season? The only way it can be a success is if we need to win that game to finish top, I see that as highly unlikely.

| I wasn't really expecting us to hit 11k tbh. With how the season ended last year after the CC final, plus the fact the recruitment has hardly been too much to get excited about. To hit 11k+ I think we'd have needed a big name or halfback to come in. As long as we get off to a good start I don't think the average will be too far down on last year though.
Re. the playoffs, it is most blatantly obvious that the current format HAS to change! Even if they insist on keeping 8 teams (too many imo) then just follow the same structure as the NRL. The fact cuurently 1st and 2nd get the same advantage and there is a strong likelihood that week 1s fixtures will be repeated in week 3 is nothing short of ridiculous, and the attendance figures reflected this.

Could the unthinkable happen and Saints sell as many?
Saints have sold over 9600 already.

Possibly but don't forget Wigan sell thousands extra in the week leading up to the match (hence regular averages of 15-16k).
Can Saints?

Agree with that. We can only dream of a 20k stadium with standing behind the goals.

Next season will be the time to answer that I think. Getting fans to the new stadium won't have been difficult, encouraging them to renew once the initial excitement has calmed down might be though.
We need bigger crowds across the board and we should easily be looking at least 5 teams (us, Saints, Wire, Hull, Leeds, maybe Bradford also) with 12k+ averages in 2012 which is excellent. Teams like HKR, Hudds, Cas and Catalans need to push closer to the 10k mark while Salford should get a few more in for their first season in a new ground also. London's should improve now they have dropped the Harlequins name and Widnes I imagine will have a significantly higher average attendance than Crusaders did. Wakefield scraped in to this years SL by the skin of their teeth and the owners now have a big job on to justify that and start getting people through the gate.

| Getting back to Wigan RL season tickets, my missus hasn't renewed this season due to one reason or another. She has however, taken calls twice in the past few weeks from Wigan RL staff (not automated message, an actual person BTW) with regards to renewal. The first was a reminder that the renewal date was coming up and the other a couple of days ago with regards to offers for match day tickets (discounts, half price magic tickets...etc), they were on the phone for around five minutes plugging it!
Fair play to them for trying I suppose!
Assuming they are contacting everyone on the database not yet taken up a season ticket, hopefully they will convert a few using these tactics.

| WOW just seen how cheap Wigan season tickets are, think you should be looking at 15-16k season ticket holders at them prices, IL has done a great job for both club and supporters since his takeover.

I know, who'd have thought that after a year away from st helens, the first year in their brand new state of the art ( ) stadium, St Helens still cant sell as many season tickets as Wigan Rugby League. FIOS. Wonder what the comparison will be in 2013 when the novelty has worn off?

Yep, nearly 2000 more season tickets for this year than last year's average, who'd have thought indeed.

Why this cant be seen as a good thing rather than constant sniping trying to claim we are bigger than st helens is beyond me!
Its obvious to anyone despite their recent glory, that we're the bigger club, so why do we keep putting them down and trying to have a pop at them?
I hate Saints when it comes to derby day and them winning anything, but in terms of them making progression off the field and becoming a bigger club in their new stadium im all for it.
As they have managed to get as many ST holders as us for the new season (would expect both clubs to have circa 10k by the time the season kicks off), it should mean saints can hit an average of around 15k in their first season (which I actually hope isnt novelty factor- but hope they keep hold of them just as wire and hull did when they moved grounds, so that we have a strong St Helens, rather than a team pottering about with 9-10k attendances even when they win the league - as in previous years).
How good would it be to have both Wigan and Saints averaging 15-16k?!! Personally I think it would be great for the game - Just because I dont want them to beat us or win things doesnt mean I dont want to see a strong St Helens, as I want to see every team in the SL build and be strong.
This season could actually be a record year for attendances with Saints and Salfords new grounds should see a push in crowds, along with Wire's extention and Widnes in for the crusaders. The bigger attendances can be on the whole the more im for it, so yes I hope Saints do average the same as us, and I hope they help to smash the 10k average gate figure this year for the whole of SL!
