I thought the same thing. He will have to wait a long time but I am sure next time we change captain he will get it, it's a long way off yet though.

He could be made vice captain in 3 or 4 yrs time, ready to step up when Locky calls it a day.

Its a great idea but i have to worry why the hell are the team training at Sale? I assume they are using there facilities etc, not exactly a good idea given the interest they are showing in the younger players in the squad, im sure there are facilities at rugby league clubs that could be used throughout the tournament rather than taking our best young players and delivering them to the exposure of the coaching staff of one of our most ardent poachers of young rugby league players.

He's very good player, he's articulate and seems to have an intelligent rugby brain. I'm glad people are acknowledging it.

I am a bit concerned that the Kiwis and Aussies will welcome Sam to real International RL. If he can handle it, Sam may come out of the series as, without doubt, the hottest prospect in the game.

I actually love that bit! It's great to have a player who other fans hate. Just like Man U fans loved having Ronaldo or Saints having Long.

Maybe that might persaude Lockyer come over for a year on a pas as you play contract so he can play with his hero Sam.

I am not sure I would be all that chuffed if Lockyer came. There are other players who would do just as good a job as Lockyer on longer deals for less money. Lockyer has gone past his best and I don't want anyone at Wigan who is still not performing at the top of their game for that much money. If he was to come and be at his very best then I would accept but I think we all know he wouldn't be. His defence at times has been shocking even though he is still a quality player don't get me wrong.

There are a few sensible posters I enjoy reading their posts on here from other clubs.

FearTheVee, Billinge_Lump, Saint Simon, Phil-P and the wire fan who's name escapes me, but has Brian Bevan as his avatar are amongst the better ones.

They all contribute to this forum, not always agreeing with our views but in general post constructive comments without being patronising or offensive.

Even McClennan and Billinge Wire have their moments.

How many fans (regardless of club) haven't acknowledged that Tomkins is a good player? I can't remember seeing any fan on these boards suggest otherwise.

The Castleford board after he scored a hatrick against them was a good read. All saying they hated him and he was overated and all this.

Agreed, to be fair McClennan is always an interesting read and actually knows the game.

Same with Billinge Wire, he can make some good points, and even when not agreeing he can debate rather than insult.

I heartily welcome other team's fans like that here, it's great to get their views on things.

I wouldn't have Lockyer either, if he did come to SL at the end of his next contract his best days will be past him by a margin and he'd still be on top money. Fantastic player, but best to remember him as a Broncos legend, hope he gets a job in their coaching setup.

Completely off topic, but just to be controversial, I wouldn't have Thurston either! (unless we could get salary cap elasticity tips from a friendly neighbour

Sam T has the ability to be a class act. All he needs do is stop the occasional use of the knees in the tackle. He doesnt need to do that and the wotlds his oyster.

If he keeps doing that then some big burly guy in green and gold might take exception

I would take Thurston any day as long as we could fit him on.

And that's why I wouldn't have him, as a player like that would eat so much salary cap the rest of the squad would have to be really really thinned out. It's a weird situation, such a fantastic player, all the ability in the world, but if he does sign a new deal for the Cowboys then having him there on even bigger wages (figures of $800,000 + per year have been guessed at for his next deal) could end what little chance they have of winning.

I think in the world of the salary cap, a player can become too good if that makes sense.
