| Quote ="wigan_knight"Andy Wilson..
Unfortunately Lima had already blotted his copybook – which was messy enough anyway, only a couple of months into his British career – with the tackle on the young Leeds forward Chris Clarkson that dominated post-match discussion. It doesn't seem to have made it on to You Tube yet, but can be viewed again through the BBC's Super League Show - about 15 minutes in, with Robbie Hunter-Paul's comments five minutes later. "This sort of tackle can cause a lot of problems – you can blow someone's knee out like that, and even end their career," said Robbie, summing up the general outrage at Lima's apparent lack of regard for a fellow professional, and setting the scene for the New Zealander's latest trip to the Rugby Football League disciplinary this week.
It does seem a funny old world when Wayne Rooney can be pilloried for swearing at a television camera, even after issuing an apology through Manchester United, whereas Wigan are apparently happy with Maguire's mealy-mouthed response when asked about Lima's behaviour. "I don't think there was too much in it to be honest," he said. "At the end of the day you get three men in a tackle many times, and unfortunately he [Clarkson just happened to bend the wrong way."
It will be interesting to see if the disciplinary authorities take the same view.'"
Perhaps Maguire would be more sympathetic to Leeds's position if the entire Leeds establisment hadn't cried wolf over Danny McGuire's self-inflicted injury at the end of last season.
Plus ... Andy Wilson. We know exactly where he's coming from, and it's no surprise whatever to see that he also is doing his bit to influence the game's judiciary.

If I ever needed my position on the matter vindicating they have just done it.
Kear is a SL coach - hope he gets don't for bringing the game into disrepute.

| maybe we should just stop tackling players round the legs?
ffs they teach u7s to go for the legs.....so we cant tackle high, grab arms, go round legs, grab bolox, drag into touch by the shirt, .........not a lot of body left to tackle is there?
and Kear should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute

But then Hetherington could complain about us tackling around the waist, saying that we're obviously going for the bollox. Not that this would be a probelm for him personally, for obvious reasons.

| Jeff Lima was binned for "tackling the standing leg below the knee" by Silverwood with advice from his TJ's.
If they understand that "Standing" means stationary which it does they are talking utter nonsense. At no time in the incident was Clarkson standing or stationary.
He was running, pumping his legs and driving the Wigan tacklers back. At that point Lima tackled him and the point of impact was the thigh.
Why there is all this about tackling a standing leg I don't know.
It will be interesting to see if Jeff is charged and the nature of the charge. If it is the same as the offence for sin binning then they are setting a dangerous precedent.
Jeff Lima tackled a man running with the ball.
Do they intend abolishing that?

what about around the ankles? What about ankle taps? The list goes on and on and on - it's bloody ludicrous.

| Some of these reactions on this board are insensitive and slightly embarrassing. John Kear is only trying to reclaim his prestigious crown from last year. Something that as a Wigan fan I can sympathise with as we're hoping to retain our title.
A valiant attempt Mr Kear, but you must do better I'm afraid.

| Why don't we just allow one person to make a tackle, and maybe have a piece of cloth hanging off the shorts so when it's ripped off, the tackle is complete? That way, there'll never be another injury in SL. I can't see the Aussies being able to beat us at this....................

| 1 really bad thing is going to happen next season. We will get more of Kear on tv and radio as he wont be coaching in SL when Wakey get kicked out. Feel sorry for the fans but Kear is nothng more than an average coach thats why hes always coached mid to bottom of the table sides.

I think that is a little bit harsh.
He won the 1998 challenge cup final but then repeated that success at Hull in 2005. He kept Wakefield from relegation and has taken them to the play-offs and also to a challenge cup semi-final with limited resources.

We won't petal.
John Kear has a well respected reputation within SL of motivating less than average players.
And the Garry Schofield you were so dismissive about...... is it the same guy, who had captained both his club and country, and at his retirement from playing had a record equalling 46 caps for GB?
Could it be the same Schofield who re-wrote the record books by scoring four tries as Great Britain beat New Zealand in the second Test series at..... eerm, Central Park, Wigan in 1985?
Possibley the very same chappy that the Australian legend Brett Kenny meant, when in 2010 was asked who was the best British player he had ever encountered on a RL pitch replied,....... Garry Schofield!
Maybe you know another Garry, eh?

I was thinking of the chubby gypsy jewellery wearing baboon, who harbours a massive grudge against Wigan for denying him domestic silverware during his time with the bellow par Leeds team.
The same Gary Schofield who was recently sacked from his job after about 5 minutes for being inept as a manager.
Now likely to been seen writing poison pen letters about talented rugby league players because he feels like the whole wide world "misunderstands him"

Just because he was a very good player doesn't mean he's not a t@sser. The same Gary Schofield who has just been sacked as coach by a Championship team. Just because he was a talented player does not mean that his opinions have to be valued now, over 10 years since he last played.

I dont seem to see where it stipulates "playing career only" on any of the above posts.
Still if it keeps you happy.
Just because you can spot a gap or pass a ball, does not make you an expert on the grander task of commenting on the game. Especially when it was proven to the whole wide RL world that you don't know what you are talking about just a matter of weeks ago, when you prematurely collected your P45 BECAUSE of your lack of knowledge.

I notice you didnt list his domestic honours. Well here they are:
Did well there didnt he? Now, would I rather have his career or that of say Shaun Edwards or Andy Farrell? Now if one of those two ranted then people may listen as they have done everything. Theyre the most decorated player in the game and youngest ever GB captain btw. The difference between them and Mr Bitter being they keep their mouths shut and havent lost their jobs just to being at it.

| Both Ricky Bibey and Richie Mathers won more silverware than Mr Bitter.
That must grate! Mr Bitter was indeed very lucky to be surrounded by first class internationals like Hanley, Lydon, Gregory .....etc. Never did nowt with Leeds or Hull though. He must still have nightmares that Wigan didn't sign him!!! Then again why buy a burger when we already had steak!
