| Quote ="Owdpopularsider"How anyone can even think of dropping Goulding is beyond me. I aint his biggest fan, but when the chips were down tonight it was his runs out of defense that made us ground, he must have made 2-3 try saving tackles and the catch from that bullet pass for his try was WORLD class! If that had been Brett Morris or Lote Tuquri catching that ball the commentators would have been creaming themselves.
Well done Daz!!
As for Roberts well ermmm....im sick of hearing he's a confidence player and we need to give him time, sorry kids but we can afford to lose a couple of games just to hopefully get his confidence back.'"
Goulding was superb last night. He ran his heart out and really got stuck in.
His best game for a while and his finish was high class aswell.

Fully agreed. I've been highly critical of him lately, but he really impressed last night.

Give Micky Mac a rest he's had a hard job to do. I'm still not wholly convinced by JT at centre because I don't like his tendancy to run straight for the touchline then fling the ball back aimlessly when he realises he's going in touch, he'll give up the ball a few times that way and is hardly the work of a clever centre. Having said that I don't see who you drop out of our back row so I'll give it another week. If he looks bad then get Charnley in and make a hard decision with the back rowers.

| no disrespect to catalans but a home game like that is the perfect chance for Finch to get game time and Amos to build confidence.
Fullback - Amos Roberts
Stand off - Sam Tomkins
Halfback - Brett Finch
Hooker - Tommy for attack/Mac for defense.
Get some fluidity going in attack, something we havent done this season.

| Sam,
Goulding, Joel, Carmont, Richards,
Leuluai, Finch,
Prescott, McIlorum, Coley,
Hansen, Hoffman,
O'Loughlin. Lima, Mossop, Farrell, Charnley.
Mcguire could start to include a back on the bench so that there will be an option to bring on Charnley to 5, Pat to 1 and Sam to half back. Moving Sam into the line got us back into the game and his break at the end got us the draw.

Valid point, but we need Pat firing on all cylinders for Good Friday. I'd give him 40-60 minutes against Catalans, then hopefully the full game against Hull KR, so he is match fit for Saints.

He is a winger that never breaks the line, never runs at gaps, is terrible under a high ball and poor in defence. He scored a load of tries in a championship winning side last season playing outside a world class , he's extremely average.

On the flip side of that look how we handled Roberts after his injury, we rushed him back and he wasn't the player he had been. (I know he still isn't but I don't think that's the injury more of a conidence/ position switching around thing).

The finish for his try agains Leeds on Friday was nothing short of world class. He was about 12 inches of the deck for the last 8 yards of his run.
Also, if a so called duffer like Goulding can score a shed load of tries in our team. Why would we need to bring in worldbeater?, do you think that Morris etc would score more tries?. He does a job, does it well, does not cost the earth and is rarely injured.

Come on mate, he only had to dive over the line, as for world class, Brett Morris is world class and taught Goulding a lesson in how to play on the wing in the WCC. Charnley is already better than Goulding.

In a word, yes. People like Morris score from anywere on the pitch, they run at gaps, they dont come inside. Goulding's nothing more than a journeyman living off scoring a load of tries in an SL winning side, just like Ade Gardner was.

Where we going to find another 150/200k a year to sign a player of Morris's caliber and still keep a decent squad?

I never mentioned signing a winger, all I said in my original post was that id play Charnley over Goulding. Then tuggles78 asked me is Morris would score more tries than Goulding, to which I replied yes.

What complete rubbish, if he was half as bad as you are trying to make out he wouldnt even be playing in Super League, never mind playing for Wigan.
In attack he is a very good finisher and has scored some very good tries, like his one on Friday and I can think of several others against Leeds alone such as last year in the play offs. He has a very good work rate and makes loads of yards returning the ball and scooting and always gets a quick play the ball. He also wins an awful lot of penalties with his runs and must have won at least 2 in the game on Friday. He is also far from terrible under a high ball and rarely drops them in defence, in fact I can think of very few kicks that have been conceeded by kicks to his wing. He also saves us an awful lot in defence when faced with overlaps. He was one of our best players on Friday and is generally a very solid and underated player. It seems like no matter what he does he will always get stick from some on here.

What complete garbage, stop making him sound like the best thing since Billy Boston just because he's a local lad, saves us in defence? is that a joke? he's targeted by teams time and time again because he rushes up out of the line and gets caught, i.e St George. How many times can you honestly tell me he has got ball and ran round a man or beat anyone? 99% of his tries are scored from very close range because he is playing outside of a quality centre. Charnley had a poor game against Wire but in the Huddersfield game he looked twice the winger Goulding is, he was running at people and beating them with pace, Goulding gets his plaudits because he comes in field and helps out the forwards. He isnt a threat when he gets the ball, he's one dimentional, he runs in straight lines and never looks to beat a player. Another of your points, very rarely drops a high ball and few tries conceded on his wing.......again, is this a joke? Did you watch the Hull game?? 2 tries conceded on his wing because his feet never left the floor when attemting to catch the high ball, he plants his feet and doesnt attack it at all, this is the same at both ends of the pitch, its very rare he gets above the oppostion winger in attack.

So why does the current best coach in SL pick him at wing then??
If he is as bad as you make out and offers as little as you say then it seems rather strange. It is also fairly amazing that he managed to get selected for England against Australia and New Zealand. I have not said he is the best thing Billy Boston, he is just no where near as bad as you are trying to make out and it seems strange when you are so willing to back Maguires judgement when it suits but not when it comes to Goulding. Everyone said that he played well against Leeds and he has received a lot of plaudits for his try so it seems strange that you are so intent on knocking him and promoting Charnley who was dropped due to his poor performance the week before. If you think that all Goulding had to do for his try against Leeds was dive over the line then you need to watch it again, it is like saying all Charnley had to do was catch the ball against Huddersfield and fall over the line.
He is not targetted like you are trying to make out either. St George are renowed for attacking through their left no matter who they play, it was hardly a change of tactic on their part. Also if you are trying to blame Goulding against St George, a game when he was constantly faced with 2 and 3 men overlaps with either an injured centre or makeshift centre, then you completely fail to understand that defence is a team game and that any winger does not stand a chance in those circumstances. If Maguire thought that it was Gouldings fault after analysing the game then he would have been dropped, its as simple as that. As he didnt drop him I doubt he sees it the same way as you or are you right and Maguire is wrong?
Charnley has been fairly awful under high kicks in every game he has played so it is completely beyond me how you can possibly think he is better under high kicks and criticise Goulding for it. Do you not think Warrington targetted Charnley after all his dropped kicks in previous weeks? I did watch the Hull game and one try was conceeded because Goulding was blinded by the sun, it certainly wasnt 2. All wingers conceed tries from high kicks, even Richards, but I would be fairly certain that Goulding conceeds less than most. Can you name another which has been conceeded this season like this or even last?
For whatever reason you seem to be intent on focusing on anything that Goulding may have done wrong and trying to blame him even for things that are beyond his control whilst completely ignoring any positive things that he has done or what he brings to the team.

Hardly a fair indication of the problems he would face in SL given that St George have one the best centre wing combos in the world. Could you perhaps offer some more examples against SL opposition where his defence has been shown up.
