if Wigan are paying well over £100k for those 3 - they are in bigger strife than I thought.
At most there will be around £40k freed up, bearing in mind that we are 1/3 through the season too.

Its all done pro rata so, i would expect a player to be on at least £30 -40k a year in the first team at wigan. Just guessing though. any player coming in would only be on 2/3 of the seasons wage though.

If you get 1,500,000 to spend on 25 players in your first team then fringe juniors like Mossop will be lucky to be on £15,000-20,000,
Goulding £20,000-25,000 Pryce maybe £40,000
Take 30% off that you may get £50-55K free any more free'd and Wigan are paying too much

| Now Goulding's gone I don't expect Pryce to go on loan as well.
Pryce can cover wing and centre.
He looked massive on Monday. He was a lot taller than Ryles or Richards and they are both 6'5".
Had to laugh when the Catalan player tried to crash tackle Pryce and a cheer went up from their crowd. When their player bounced off Pryce and landed on his backside the same fans then groaned.
Pryce looked as knackered as the rest of the team but he didn't play Thursday.
Get Pryce fit and he'll take the 4 shirt when Carmont goes end of 2010.

If Pryce goes i am sure we will be making room for another back, if McIllorum goes we could be looking at a half, if one of Prescott or O'Carroll goes we will be looking at a Prop.
Only if and when any of these moves occur which i doubt will I be convinced the current loan moves are anything more than exercises aimed to develop both Mossop and Goulding as future Wigan players.

could be true if they still use the old system.
young amateurs who signed on used to get paid in stages.
1. signing on fee
2. fee after x number of games (usually 10)
3, fee for county honours
4. fee for international honours.
all usually on a 25% a time basis.
so they probably have some kind of structure in place today.
i know a player who signed on, played 9 games then got dropped and sold.
he went on to get county honours at his next club

i prefere my idea of fining individual players who underperform.
and if they dont like it they can leave.
and at the present time with how we are playing we will probably struggle to raise a side by august is they spit the dummys out.

| Gotta believe we are looking to add a player, if McIllorum/Smith goes then its a half.
Would still like it to be a prop though, we are severely lacking in biff.

Point 4 cocked Saints up when Graham and Gardener made debuts midseason against that Kiwi team so quite feasible a similar situation is in place.
Don't undertsand that if you do let Smith / McIllorum go that its definitely a Halfback or if its Pryce that its a 3/4...
You have Richards, Roberts, Gleeson, Carmont, Phelps, Pryce, Ainscough, Bailey, Thornley that play in the backs
Leuluai, Tomkins, Smith, Phelps for the halfs - and Smith isn't getting a look in anyway - if injuries are a worry then am sure you'd sign in a recall clause.
With a prop a desperate requirement, any cap space free'd up loaning fringe players or juniors should be aimed at getting one in if one is available

It doesn't work like that. If Goulding was on £20K and went on a seasons long loan to Salford and they agreed to pay all his contract then the entire £20K (which is what is know as his "salary cap value"icon_wink.gif goes off Wigan's cap and all of it ends up on Salford's.
It may sound daft but there is a reason for this and it is to prevent short term loans of high quality players being used to improve a teams squad.
What would prevent Saints from loaning KFC to Wigan short term, say for two months and us paying him £20K a month? That would be only £40K on our cap so to prevent deals like this the players full "salary cap value" counts at a club he moves to part way through the season.
The club doing the loaning out don't get around anything either.
Lets say we got £64,000 off out cap now by loaning Pryce and Goulding out. In theory that is £8K a month of a wage for a new player as there are about 8 months left in the salary cap year. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that either.
If we agreed to pay a player £8K a month his "salary cap value" is calculated as 12 x £8K which is £96K not 8 x £12K (£64K).
So by loaning out players we only gain their "salary cap value" divided by 12 to spend. Which would mean if we got Pryce and Gouldings wages off the books and the total salary cap value of their wages was £64K then we get to pay a player £64K divided by 12 which is about £5300 a month.

Thanks for clearing that up it does make sense to avoid the Adrian Morley loophole.
In terms of monetary value by your method you'd only be entitled to spend any money left from any "loaned" salaries, which was what i was saying if not very clear.
To be a real challenger IMO you need a F/B (Richards more effective off the wing), S/H (TL better at 9) a good Prop (Fielden just not right) & get a bit more out of Feka, i think you have a very talented squad otherwise just that Noble has lost his way.

its my alternative to win bonuses.
nobody these days would sign a contract dependant upon the TEAM winning, but if your money was dependant upon YOURSELF performing well, you might be more inclined to sign.
and if you wernt prepared to sign on those terms it seems to prove they just want to sign for an easy ride/pension plan.

Agreed but performance is subjective and difficult to set standards (unless you use opta stats or similar as the metrics). A win bonus is much more straightforward and accusations of favouritsm/victimisation cannot be borne as it's in no way subjective.

| Lenagan seems to play his card close to his chest the vast majority of the time and only tells the press and even the fans what he wants them to hear.
He said we only had 20 left on the cap yet we have Martin Gleeson now turning out for us with only Goulding and Mossop going out on months loans.
Are the 2 lads loaned out paying for Gleeson or for somebody else to come in? with Lenagan i truely don't have the foggiest.
