He isn't worth it for the money IMO. He has been one of the best centres in the league for the last 2 years but he was wage bill demands the very best player in any position.
It is clear as we did with Fielden and Barrett it's not really worth spending so much on individuals. We will be much better off next year with younger players developing in key positions and Fielden on a lower wage.

I agree
He came here with a BIG rep. Was he not voted players player in the NRL that year?
What ever, he has not been worth the cash. Wire fans will tell us otherwise, but he has not been a patch on the pre-signing hype.

When Phil Gould was gobbing off that the only way for England to reach level pegging with Australia was to send 60 players over there to train with and play for NRL clubs, my first thoughts were: "Nice idea, except how on Earth do we find enough vacant berths in the NRL for 60 Englishmen".
On the basis of this, they have must have more vacant berths than they know what to do with.

He is a winger, plays for England Community Lions, that's about it.

| I LOL'd out loud when I saw that Penrith had signed Worrincy.
Personally I think the RFL have something to do with the number of English players being signed up by the NRL clubs. Burgess, Ellis, Flanagan & now Worrincy. Thats a lot over the space of 3 years, compared to over the past ten being Carney and Morley.

Mathers and Worrincy.
On the basis of this, it must be getting increasingly difficult for loudmouthed Aussie fans to keep laughing because we 'sign too many crap Australians'.

| So with only Karl Pryce's contract left to sort out, let's have a look at next seasons OOC players.
[uMike McIlorum[/u - Big chance Mike. I really like McIlorum. He's a tremendous talent and could be at Wigan for many years IMO. I just feel he's been so unfortunate to land an injury when he is just hitting some form. I hate to label him as injury prone. If he can stay fit and continue to develop the attacking side of his game then I could see him being given a two-year deal.
[uAndy Coley[/u - Has a second year option if both the club and player agree (according to cherryandwhite) and will be 33 when his contract comes to renewal. Now I've always been of the belief that age is just a number, but Andy Coley is at the wrong side of 30 and will need replacing. If we can find a suitable replacement, whether that be from within (O'carroll, Prescott, Davies, Mossop, Hock) or from recruiting overseas (with a view to a long-term signing) then I would go for the replacement. However, if a replacement cannot be found then I would, as long as his performances are still up to scratch, take up the option for a second year.
[uGeorge Carmont[/u - Another player who will be 33 when his contract comes up for renewal. I think it is imperative we look to replace Carmont sooner rather than later, because Gleeson's contract is up the following year. I would definitely look to promote from within. Darrell Goulding would be the first option for me. However, Stefan Marsh and Josh Charnley may have something to say about that. I'm still unsure how we will play this one, because for one of those players to take over from Carmont they need games. Opportunities will occur, but Carmont is still a fantastic centre. I hope the management have something planned. I don't see renewing Carmont's deal as an option next year, because I think we'd fall into the trap of letting too many quality players leave at once.
[uRyan Hoffman[/u - Will only be 27 and has an option for a second year if club and player can agree (like Andy Coley). Our competition in the second row is strong. Harrison Hansen, Joel Tomkins, Liam Farrell, Lee Mossop, Chris Tuson and Gareth Hock when he comes back. Hoffman is a quality player, but I don't see him staying with the depth of talent we have at the club. However, things can always change.
[uDarrell Goulding[/u - Amazing to think he will only be 23 when his contract is up for renewal. I certainly have high hopes for this lad. I think he has established himself as our first choice winger for next season. I'm not sure I see him there long-term, I think his future is as a centre. However I think a lot also depends on how other players develop including Darrell. Goulding is he a centre or a winger, Charnley a centre or a winger, Marsh a centre or a fullback? In the air with this one, but I don't see him leaving us after 2011.
[uHarrison Hansen[/u - Will be 26 when his contract is up. I don't see HH going anywhere. A solid, reliable pro who is coming into his best years. Although he must continue to improve with some of the forwards coming through at the moment.
[uPaul Prescott[/u - Will be 25 when his contract is coming up. His performances towards the end of last season were very encouraging. Still has plenty to work on in his game, but if he can find some consistency and can keep on improving he could end up on a long-term contract, because British props are becoming harder to come by.
[uJoel Tomkins[/u - No brainer. Get him signed long-term. Rumours that NRL clubs are sniffing around and I don't blame them. Four year deal get it signed.
[uEamon O'carroll[/u - Make or break year for him. Has never let us down when he has played, but the standards at Wigan are very high at the moment. He's an injury prone lad and that could work against him. Needs a massive year or we could be saying goodbye at the end of 2011. I do believe and hope that he can turn things round.
[uPat Richards[/u - Prior to his injury it was a no brainer, but I feel it paramount that we are careful and see how he recovers first before we hand out a contract. Some call it harsh, but I call it being sensible. Sport is sport. There is no room for sentiment. Naturally if he recovers and all is well sign him up - he is the best winger in the league. Contract length depends on injury and the development of Josh Charnley, Ryan King or possibly Goulding as wingers.

I'd imagine Lenagan'll be all over it shortly.
He's set a precedent for giving 5 year deals to players who've come through the academy and made an impact on the 1st team, so I'd hope both Farrell and Joel Tomkins get long term deals asap.
