I'd rather have Moses...

| Wigan Athletic: HMRC lodges winding-up petition against League One club
By Simon Stone
BBC Sport
Last updated on16 minutes ago16 minutes ago.
From the sectionWigan
His Majesty's Revenue & Customs has lodged a winding-up petition against Wigan Athletic over unpaid tax bills, with a hearing date of 26 July.
It follows the English Football League placing the Latics under a transfer embargo last week for breaching league rules on tax payment.
Wigan will begin the League One season after relegation with an eight-point deduction for late payment of salaries.
It also understood money is outstanding from last month's salary payments.
The club has said it is in the process of being sold but one of the interested parties, 21-year-old businessman Sarbjot Johal, failed to gain EFL approval for his proposed purchase of Morecambe earlier this year.
Winding-up petitions can be resolved by payment of debt or by arrangement of a payment plan with the creditor, in this case HMRC itself.

| Hopefully Danson or someone else comes up with a solution that has Wigan RL owning the stadium and the rugby club finds itself in a position to drive revenues and profits up rather than being left with an expensive off-season without any soccer rent.
Not too bothered what happens to Latics, but hope there is an outcome that works for WRL.

| Anyone would be crazy to buy Latics at the moment.
From a financial perspective, much cheaper to let them go bust and negotiate with the Administrators.

| My thoughts on Latics facing a winding up order.....
Let me put it this way. When Maurice Lindsay died i read many filthy comment on their board about his death so my thoughts on Latics and the HMRC... i will quote on of the posts i read
'What a shame'
I do find it hilarious now the realisation of whats happening to them is sinking in, they are begging for Danson to buy them. Just hang fire Mike, You can have the stadium for nowt in a month or two and the rates on a Rugby stadium are a lot more agreeable than those on a football one.

| Give it a couple of months, and the knuckledragging, rugby-hating grunts that peddle this bile will be so desperate for the Latics to be saved, they'll happily sit in a red seat with the Warriors' Crest carved into it at the newly named New Central Park.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the deal is to take over all the creditors (Hmrc, players, Sodexo etc)and Danson pays the current owners a £1. Potentially a canny deal by Danson.
Wigan Sporting Club I’ve heard has been formed for the takeover.
Will be interesting to see who becomes the ceo of the Latics. I genuinely have no idea but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Leneghan’s mate who ran Oxford Utd for him and who is on the group company that owns Wigan RL.

Yes that could be a concern but I believe a new company has been formed for the deal which presumably and hopefully will include us at some point in the near future.
Interesting times.

| This is perfect. Both clubs on an equal footing under the same banner. The success of one helps the success of the other. No more taunts of being tenants at the stadium - both clubs own it.
Hopefully the fact that it's a Warriors shareholder that has saved the day will quash some of the bad blood and we can move forwards with better relations.

He was CEO of Latics from about 2010
Also his dad was a director of latics back in the day
Hes massively well thought of by Latics fans
Also
He was very well liked by leneghan when the original Admin was put in place 2020 and Leneghan was trying to do what is happening now I.e. Wigan Sporting Club (P.S, have no doubt IL is well involved behind the scenes of this deal).
With all potential options and buyers that IL brought to the table etc he wanted them to involve Jonathon Jackson
They had/have a very good working relationship
I'd be confident that IL will.steer Danson to JJ and I would agree it would be a great move

| I'd imagine we and Latics won't be playing at the DW for much longer, naming rights should be up on the to do list.
A deal that just covers the stadium's utility bills will be a massive win for both clubs.

| Great news, made all the sweeter that the stadium is now owned by someone with a foot in both camps, and although its not a complete role-reversal, it certainly feels that there are now two joint tenants at the stadium.
The coup-de-grace is the likes of Bullitt & Bickymon from CL/Latics Speyk who have spent years using cuckoo, lodgers, etc and vowed to stop going if anyone connected with the rugby bought their club now have a choice whether to eat humble pie and crawl back, or disappear for good. Maybe even "egg" will stop having to pander to the knuckledragging brigade on there.

| Does sound like good news and hopefully takes some of the Idiot Latics fans down a peg. Danson will have his work cut out he needs to steady the club. Even then I imagine any Football club outside of the top flight are loosing money (like the rugby) hopefully the stadium can be redeveloped slightly, first order Would be to sort out the pitch. Luckily he’s not come in and said we’re changing the seat colour or buying a big tv board to begin with haha anyone have any idea how this will benefit both clubs? Will it be as close working relationship as shared facilities, maybe staff and training facilities. I’m not 100% sure what Latics have access too but imagine both clubs could learn from each other

| I don’t think he’ll say much at all in truth. We’ve not heard anything in terms of the rugby club and with the takeover, he’s put out a brief statement and refused further interviews. He is apparently a very private individual but he looks to have real affection for the town.
I expect a chief exec will be put in charge of Latics, he’ll be front and centre and he’ll be expected to work closely with his rugby counterparts.
