| With the impending scramble for tickets for the derby game is there any point in the membership Wigan are offering?
Season ticket holders have Weds-Sat purchase tickets, Members can have the scraps on Monday...
So whats the point in being a member? You purchase a membership for the perks it brings, tickets for this game will be like rocking horse poo!! No doubt the Wire game will be the same.

| It just doesn't seem worth it.
IMO, these "Membership" schemes should be scrapped entirely.
You either have a situation like this, where members have paid money for no benefit, or you get the complete opposite, like Liverpool FC, where non season ticket holder members bought most of the tickets for the Carling Cup Final BEFORE match-going STH's, who had been to every away game, but hadn't paid the extra to be a "Member".

| All it does is put the members one rung above the open sale bracket. It also gives small savings iirc. Membership was never going to get members a ticket for games like Good Friday, even all season ticket holders arent guaranteed one.

Thought about it at the start of the season, now i will just continue to pay cash on the gate and pick my games, the best bet is to commit to a season ticket if you can for the perks, no point in this membership.

| From a commercial point of view Wigan are trying to exploit a niche in the market by offering people like me a rewards scheme whilst generating revenue for the club, if this is a sign of things to come i will steer well clear.

It only £20. How many home games will you go to this season? You would save 2 quid a time on them tickets plus you get half price magic weekend tickets. That would easily pay for itself before any of the other little perks.
Anybody who goes to a few games it would pay for itself, hardly exploitation.

| I thought twenty quid for that package was good value, actually.
The only disappointment was that it got announced after I'd already bought the season review DVD, which was £12 by itself IIRC. An extra £8 on top of that for a £2 per game saving on home tickets, half price Magic ticket, second priority on Cup/away games etc makes it a steal, if you go to a few home games but not enough to warrant a Season Ticket.
It's unfortunate that members probably won't be able to get Langtree Park tickets on this occasion, but with an allocation of 3,000, there's only one available for every three or four Season Ticket holders at Wigan, so there'll be plenty of STH's that miss out too. It's the nature of this season's game, sadly, but I'm sure it'll be the only time this season that it's an issue, so to bash the membership scheme based on this case is a bit harsh.

Same as at any football club, season ticket holders will always get priority over members, and rightly so. How would you feel if you had a season ticket which costs you a fortune and "members" got the same priority for tickets as you did??

| Theres gonna be 8k season ticket holders roughly who wont get a ticket for Saints away so why you think your membership will get you 1 is beyond me. Demand out weighs supply on this occasion. If we get to a final or a semi your membership might come into play regarding tickets its a chance you take.

perhaps we ought to introduce further tiers of season ticket membership.
Bronze member: held season ticket for 2-5 years
Silver Member: held season ticket for 6-10 years
Gold Member: held season ticket for 11 years plus
that way loyalty would be rewarded by Gold getting chance to buy a day before silver, 2 days before bronze and 3 days before new season ticket holders..
After all it is the upfront payments from said season ticket holders that give the club a healthy working capital

My post in another thread, for games like Saints away and Cup semi/final, Grand Final
For example for Good Friday it would go
Day 1
* ST holders that have recorded 10 or more away games from last season
Day 2
* ST holders with 6 or more away games from last season recorded
Day 3
*All ST holders
Day 4
*members with X amount of away games recorded, if any left.
Day 5
General Sale, if any left.
The only way loyalty would be rewarded would be if you bought tickets for aways instead of paying on the door and the TO recorded it.

That'd be a pretty rubbish system, why would the club reward people for going to away games?! It's hardly a good earner for the club.
Promoting better benefits for those who buy a season ticket every year is a much better option.
Or/and better still sell the membership as an extra - they get first grab at tickets - ST holders have to buy one too if they want first go = more money for the club.

| I got one just to save a few quid on the DVD and handbook and get the 15% discount that will come in handy when I do my shopping for Catalans away
Not received my card yet though even though I got the confirmation e-mail etc, but I wouldn't/don't need it for tickets anyway as I have at least 3 season tickets I can use.

Why would you reward away fans? You mean those that watch the club week in and week out no matter who and where they're playing? You mean those that spend hundreds a season watching the club? They are the people that SHOULD be rewarded.
You could for example have a fan who goes home and away that wasn't able to get to the ticket office yesterday and so now can't go to the biggest game of the season. How is that fair?

What? Dont reward fans that travel Away? Are you for real?
Its obviously not that bad of a system seeing that its the same system that 80% of premiership football clubs use.
Going from your option, you say reward Season ticket holders? Ok then, yes I agree, so what does your proposed system do about games like Saints away and Cup finals seeing as we have 10k Season ticket holders and only 3k Tickets? You have to water it down and the only way to do that is to have a system that rewards loyalty and lets people know were they stand. The only way to do this is to reward people that have been away. Its nothing to do with "earners for the club" its about rewarding loyalty and letting the people that go to most games have first dabs on tickets for the big occasions.

| one slight problem with the away fans idea, most away fans pay at the gate(no ticket stub is given) apart from the odd couple of matches. Wigan would have to put in place a system where fans had to buy from them so that their attendance is verified and recorded.
I am all for fans who attend the most league games being given the best opportunity to get a ticket for the big games when away from home as long as those who meet that requirement but live over 100 miles away are allowed to purchase online/phone and not suffer the farce of last years Challenge cup. I travelled over 5000 miles last season watching games and could not get a ticket from the club until the 3rd day of sales by which time no lower tier were left.

Correct, whats the problem with that? Scrap the "pay on the door system" all together and get a proffesional system in place.

Exactly, its a disgrace, day trippers for Cup finals that haven't attended all year should be in the last day sale scraping for tickets that are left, not stood at the window getting the best seats. Its not rocket science, reward loyalty!!!!

| "Reward loyalty" .....exactly....... just what the RFL have done, I have already bought discounted tickets again this year for the Grand Final after receiving an email from them last November for attending the last 10 grand finals, i have bought 2 lower tier tickets 3 rows from the front at both ends of the ground just in case we get there (live in hope and expectation).
Why doesn't the club follow suit, after all they have your record on file of all the tickets you purchase online from them
