nobody these days would sign a contract dependant upon the TEAM winning, but if your money was dependant upon YOURSELF performing well, you might be more inclined to sign.

Agreed but performance is subjective and difficult to set standards (unless you use opta stats or similar as the metrics). A win bonus is much more straightforward and accusations of favouritsm/victimisation cannot be borne as it's in no way subjective.

Lenagan seems to play his card close to his chest the vast majority of the time and only tells the press and even the fans what he wants them to hear.
