The RFL have enough cash to fund an academy in London, they don't have the cash to fund a SL club with very poor crowds. I expect and hope to see Broncos academy playing the top SL sides even if Broncos drop a division (or even two).

The best Southern lads will move north or switch to RU for a living.
Our academy system is not yet churning out lots of lads who want to play Championship and are good enough to for all four southern teams - including us if we drop.
Oxford have recruited about 10 northern lads - the spine of the team. They also have about 20 southern lads. When they played North Wales about five of their the team had played less than 10 RL games. It's going to call for a bit of inginuity whilst the playing base down here develops but we are already a lot better off than we would have been five years ago.'"
The best southern lads will do as you suggest but there are more than enough for a semi-pro club.
How many northerners did Hemel need to recruit?
Are you suggesting that your academy isn't better than theirs?

This is true and do-able. Sheffield and Featherstone have good academies. A team does not have to be in SL for an academy to thrive though it helps.

Whitehaven and York have also run SL academies.

Really? At the moment with the fall in Sports England funding and the number of employees being made redundant that is not an expectation I would have.
Of course the Sky money, which Broncos would have received, could go into paying for an academy. I'm sure the other SL clubs will agree and not just divide it up amongst themselves like they did with Bradford.

Neither are in the SL academies leagues (unlike Featherstone and Sheffield)
The vast majority of heartlands Championship clubs can't afford to fund set ups at that level.

| Gutted, best player by a mile. However, we need a home grown squad. The days of 34 year old overseas players has to end.

| There will be no SL in London from 2015 if not 14. The game will retreat to its limited gene pool and wither from any sort of national platform.

I have huge respect for Hemel but this thread sees people talking about Championship not Championship 1 - where Hemel have benefitted from several Broncos lads on loan who certainly ain't London born.
Living in Aldershot I often watch our juniors and have seen the four southern Championship 1 teams this season. My honest belief is that we would currently struggle to field a competitive Championship unless we hold players who would almost certainly do better than Championship.
I should add that things are a lot better than they used to be and if the youth development can be maintained a good London Championship team is far from a pipe dream

| We lose one player and suddenly the club is doomed!!
He's a selfish house. Not the best player we've had at London by a long stretch. Competitive, determined etc but nothing special- Rangi showed him how to play in the halves at the weekend. A real go to player(yes I know they are 6 and 7)

bit strong. He sets himself a high standard and the other players simply have not matched it. He puts his body on the line every game. If I was him, I'd be looking around and wondering why I'm bothering as well.
He strikes me as a greater loss than Sarginson, who to me just hasn't kicked on since he first burst on the scene.

Nope....but it sends a clear message to any potential signings for 2014 (if there is a 2014) with regards to the coach and his training/tactics. Even clubs down with us like Salford have the cheque book out already, so as usual, we will pick up "fringe" players if we are lucky.....if not, we will have the same squad next year and will be lucky to get a win.
If he had been stealing a wage like others at the club, then it wouldn't be so bad, but he has consistantly been described here and in match reports as a stand out player.
As for the Championship or below.....I doubt the Skolars would have made the progress they have over recent years if it weren't for a London SL side. An academy set up without a SL club would simply become a feeding ground for Union scouts. If we fold, the RL will retreat to the north........and with each passing week, less and less people will care.

Should be interesting on Saturday.

I would never wish that on any team, but if it were to happen, I suspect Gillingham would be off the agenda for a new home.
I would hope that TR is working on nothing other than defence, defence, defence. If Wire get a sniff, they will hammer us, but the longer we can frustrate them the better. They will be focused, but not as focused as if they were playing a top team, so if we can hold them for 20 minutes or so, then we are in with a chance of still being in the game by half time.
Thereafter......it's down to Clubb to keep the team focused and fitness. The team should expect to make twice the number of tackles they did last weekend.
All I'd say to TR is don't pich anyone who is not 100% fit...

| I like Tony Clubb but the statement that 'it's down to Clubb to keep the team focused' really concerns me. Warrington will absolutely murder us this Saturday. Thank goodness I have planned my summer holiday to intentionally avoid this fixture
