I think the RFL should just play preliminary rounds so that the best 2 teams go into the draw with the 14 SL teams. The non - SL teams are not strong enough 95% of the time to give the full time pro's a game and the speccies know it. Fans want to see a contest for their money and effort to get there.

Anybody know if Dewsbury's Ben Jones is the same guy who played on loan to us a couple of years ago? Supposedly a prop according to the programme, but far too small for that. Once their hooker went off with his knee b*ggered, Jones started playing at no. 9 and calling their plays. Damn good job he made of it too. If we could have him back as a hooker, I'd be well pleased.

Completely agree! but even with SL teams, the attendance on national TV at Widnes was a disgrace and at times it looked as if the game was "Tick Rugby" and so many think this The Greatest Game in The World? as a sport we shoot ourselves so many times in the foot! Saturday evening was a great example and such a superb game in the afternoon on Sky (which I watched yesterday) be interesting what the audience figure was with so much sport on TV?

PC Plum dared to bring up the Widnes crowd on the VT but was unfairly shot down.

And the gate was only about 80 more than the Crusaders got in the last round against Toulouse, a match that had to be re-arranged for Saturday evening as Toulouse had travel problems.

The Dewsbury fans I chatted with reckon they only recognised three of the players on the pitch. They were not happy bunnies having come all that way to watch their second team.

Complete waste of time. We should have been allowed to go to a small soccer stadium which could hold max 3,000 crowd and saved some money.

Oddities today!!! penalty for a forward pass! Its only an oddity because he is possibly the only ref who applies the rule. A deliberate foward pass is a penalty offence.

You could argue that any forward pass mst be deliberate, its a judgement call from the official

Re attendance, not at all surprised no-one is much interested in these early rounds (and Sundays are a pain in the arris). 6 ST holders I know didn't attend (5 of whom were at The Stoop the day before to watch the top team in the Premiership...does make a nice change supporting a winning team).

Anyway, I enjoyed the day and great to see an easy win for a change (well, any win is nice!).

No, Ben didn't play for Dewsbury...presumably we wouldn't want him cup-tied.

That's a relief, the no 6 dropped a pass from the base of the scrum and was then substituted.
