Flashback to January 14th 2011
[urlhttp://www.londonbroncosrl.com/news/3031.php[/url Quote Harlequins Rugby League chairman, David Hughes, said today:
"Gus has enjoyed considerable success in professional sport over a number of years and I am delighted to welcome him on board. His appointment is not only positive for this club, but also good news for the continued growth and development of Rugby League in London.'"
Please....someone lay out his considerable successes in professional sport?
Fucking farce...David Hughes needs to be TOLD by the RFL to get rid of this clown now!

| Interesting that the warder totally skirts the question of why we need to move. He is so out of his depth and seemingly heading this club towards extinction. His interpretation of the Gillingham as a success game is ridiculous (but we all knew it would happen). This was a one off game in a stadium where the attendance at football give would give you a huge frickin' clue that it is not a viable prospect.
One possible saving grace is that I suspect he is actually incapable of finding an alternate venue, despite it being the number one thing in his in tray.

| Has the BBC just picked up on the article in the new edition of Forty 20 Magazine? that seemed to say we were looking at a London venue! the BBC piece says Gillingham was successful, but not enough effort was put into the other on the road game!

BBC piece is based on Rammo's interview with Gus last Friday as I understand it.

Trouble is they are not much better. Lets see who shall we put on at 12.00 on the first day of Magic weekend. I know the 2 clubs furthest away! Mmmm I am sure London Broncos will attract a big crowd against Leeds Rhinos even if we make it a Monday night game!

| Quote ="The Penguin"It's nice to see the club actually making a decision on something.
Oh wait.
No they haven't. This is just Gus Mackay telling BBC London that he's 'in discussions'. Wonder if they'll be concluded before the end of the season?
I await the announcement with relish. What ramshackle football stadium will we inhabit next? I'm already looking forward to my pre-match pint in Leyton. Or New Cross. Notorious rugby league strongholds, both.
Let's disregard the fact that The Stoop is geared up to play rugby all year round. Disregard the fact it's a modern, all-seater facility 20 minutes from Waterloo and easily accessible by road. Let's also forget that the club has put next to zero effort in actually engaging south-west londoners to part with their hard-earned and turn up to watch.
Underhill? Have you actually [ibeen[/i to that place? Give me strength....'"
I have been and I agree, possibly the worst ground in London and I include Dagenham in that!
I meant that they're moving soon or at least hoping to so was wondering if anyone knew their latest plans.

| The reason is quite simple its a smoke screen for his failures.
He now doesnt need to market the club this year as the future is elsewhere.
He persuaded Hughsey to spend big with a view to selling the big names and bringing in the punters-He failed to sell that.
Now we move and he needs time to build a crowd-Its a delay tactic - simple

Could Bristol be a possible home for the London club in 2014?
There is a RLWC game there that may attract a decent enough crowd...maybe Gus will "epxplore" that too? Maybe a "jolly" over to Limerick?
I find it incredible that the RFL will be prepared to let the club move again, citing "no interest" from the locals whilst offering no evidence that they have even asked the locals.
As for Gillingham, IMHO, Gus has blatently lied with regard to gate receipts for the game there last year....it is common knowledge that all the Juniors (HUNDREDS of them) received free entry for them and a guardian as part of the "stampede" and that a large number of tickets were sold by the Dragons. This EVENT game attracted 300 more fans than an average FC game in the capital over 17 years and actually, was lower than the 2010 gate.....before Gus arrived.
David Hughes must surely see that in 24 months, nothing of any standing has been achieved. We are farther away from the 10,000 fans Gus was quoted as saying he wanted, the name change saw us lose more fans, his historical recruitment from "mates" has failed at every turn and he is now seeming to be wandering around football grounds in the east from the lower divisions with his begging bowl out.
If Harlequins are really upping the rent, or want us out, then fair enough, but East London??????? Does anyone see the irony of an African Cricketer picking out a new home for a professional RL team from outside the traditional Northern Heartlands, based on the attendance at 1 game which was part of a festivalof RL planned by the local amateur set up?
Did anyone else notice this from the BBC article?
Quote "We went to Leyton Orient and that was successful in a way but with the Bradford issue that arose [the Bulls' future being in doubt we probably didn't give it the marketing attention it should have had"'"
Sorry Gus......but you've not given any of the 26 home games to date on your watch anything like ANY MARKETING ATTENTION!
1.3 million a year is given to this club from a 19 million. Surely the RFL have the responsibility to the game to see that this money (7%) is being managed and spent correctly? It's about 33% of the clubs income and was received in 2012 on the back of promises made in 2011 to increase attendances...a promise that has not been made good on and has now been forgotten in the search for another new (false) dawn. How the did he get this job? Surely a 5 year, if not longer, business plan would have needed to be put together? His past job hopping antics should have prevented him from getting a post that needed a "long term strategy".
As I say, he's probably a really nice bloke, but so far out of his depth professionally it's beyond a joke now...he has to go!

We do need our own ground. Buy a non-league footy team and do up the stadium? Oldham basically did this...

Nice idea but we'd need far better facilities for SL making it too expensive I'd imagine.

I believe that they are planning to use their 'training' stadium on what was Prince Edward Playing Fields adjacent to the Jubilee Line, between Canons Park and Queensbury. The three sided facility was only built a few years ago but has never seen a ball kicked in anger and on the last time I passed by, the pitch was one mass of very tall weeds.

Dagenham has a new stand (with bar), new floodlights & a new car park.
They've managed this on crowds about half what Gus has managed to rustle up during his tenure.
We'd probably be lucky if they took pity on us.

You're thinking of Feltham Arena - did a quick Google and it's now apparently derelict. Anything there would have to be built from the ground up which would be a good idea if we had the money.

| Barnet are indeed moving to King Edward Playing Fields, which is next door to their training ground I believe. The part finished ground they have built up was intended for Wealdstone FC but they ran out of money if I recall correctly.
Feltham Arena was plagued by issues in the latter years. For starters the main stand roof had to be removed - asbestos I seem to recall - whilst vandalism was a big issue. The future of the Arena is a bit of a political hot potato, not least since Mo Farah got involved in campaigning for it to be rebuilt. It was a multi sports arena and frankly unlikely to work as a RL ground. Feltham FC would probably be ahead of us in the pecking order politically too. All in all I doubt we will ever end up at Feltham.

| Feltham was once touted as a potential new home for Brentford FC, until [uthe fans [/umade it known to the Club and the Council, who were keen on the idea, that Brentford FC belongs in Brentford.
8 years later and after the fans took an interest in the club and on its board, a benefactor has been found, a new site, in the London Borough of Brentford found and plans have been drawn up.

| If we were going down the non-league club route then I'd look at Tooting and Mitcham. 3,500 capacity at the minute but with one touchline open. Put a stand on there and extend the current grandstand and you'd be close to SL requirements. It's also not that far from the current location so we won't lose any current fans - unlike the insanity of Gillingham which will mean starting from scratch.
Whether they'd be interested or not I have no idea.

| e mntione on here before, the dealmay already have ben done. If this is so, then there is no point at all in attempting to attract anyone to the games at the Stoop this year.
The Irony would be that if TR turns the team into top 5 contenders and we get crowds averaging 3,500 for the season........where would the myth regarding Twickenham not being good for us be then? Gus likes to take credit for imaginary successes....how would he be able to claim the increase of 25% was down to him, when he's trying to con his way into 2 more years salary with a move somewhere else because everything he says he's tried hasn't worked?
Gillingham will be the home of the Broncos in 2014........if we were close to signing in September last year, then all it will take is a 4k gate (regardless of freebies) and he'll have his justification (that isn't justified at all BTW).
I'd be keen to hear if anyone has received anything in the mail or via email regarding the first game of the season and bringing as many mates as possible down? No disrespect to Widnes, but this has to be a perfect opportunity for a "newbie" to witness a win!
