| mentioned how cas are packing the ground out and the jow it's good to see the fans flocking to see this good cas team.. the attendance was 5,310,probably below average for them, yet when we get a crowd like that, its always a case of why won't the huddersfield public get behind this team etc.
just thought it was strange that they would praise castleford for getting a crowd of just over 5,000 yet slate us for it, yet castleford are an established top flight team with a long standing fan base of around 5,000
thoughts?

| put lastnights crowd in the john smiths stadium and the giants at home and we would get slated as per, but like you say not a mention of the poor crowd lastnight.
our ground is too big for us, we know this but one of the best there is so not complaining.

| Yet another embarrassing comment from those heading the commentary team for super league on sky. When will those in charge freshen up the team?

| I think worse than that is that they constantly mix up Lawrence, Ta'ai and Jerry and have now started to do the same with Leroy and Jodie.
This happens way too often and frankly if Eddie Hemmings doesn't improve that immediatly he should be replaced. It is nothing short of disgraceful.

Your support is absolutely gash and that's why everyone is always talking about it. The ground looked nicely full on Thursday night and the crowd generated a good atmosphere, not something you will ever say about a game at Huddersfield. Considering it was Thursday night, the game was on telly, the opposition was a mid table team that brought a mini bus and 2 cars full of supporters, it really wasn't that bad. The small ground at Cas certainly made 5000 seem a lot more whereas your stadium makes it seem a lot less. It's pointless comparing your crowds to Cas because Cas is a lot smaller town. Had your team historically had low attendances then I don't think people would take much notice. The facts are, Huddersfield is the birthplace of Rugby League and if you look historically Huddersfield will have pulled in decent crowds throughout periods in their past. A good gauge is to look at the 10 years after the World War 2, which was a boom time for sport in general. I'd guess you could pull decent numbers that have not reappeared recently. Compare crowds to those of Leeds, who had their biggest crowds in the 10 years up to 1955, dropped dramatically like everyone else, but have gone on to average their biggest crowds ever over the last 10 seasons. There are obviously some complex issues to address at Huddersfield regarding their attendances, but a lack of civic pride and low appetite for any sport whatsoever are obvious issues. While ever your crowds are so abysmal it will be a talking point for SKY and the wider Rugby League community. Don't be so paranoid.

thanks for that!
still doesn't alter the fact that cas pulled in a crowd lower than what we got for salford last week, yet the sky mob praise them for it, but yet slate us when we get the same crowds which is what the post was about.
as for our support being "Gash" then that would apply to half the super league then?

It is disappointing that our crowds are not bigger, however they are not the worst, problem is the size of the stadium. In terms of numbers through the gates we are comparable to Cas and Widnes, a bit better than Wakey and Salford.
Of course Huddersfield is a bigger town than Wakey, Cas or Widnes, so we can do better. The club are trying things to help, time will tell if the are successful.
All that said, rich that we are getting condemned by Leeds Owl. At the last census the population of Leeds was just under 753,000, Huddersfield's population was a little below 162,000 The significance of that is that on a per capita basis our gates are over 60% better than Leeds. In fact per capita other than London Leeds get the lowest gates in Super League. The secret of Leeds big crowds is Leeds being a big city. Well done Leeds Owl you must be very pleased with that great achievement.

| It was something like 2000 under the season average so Sky were just being useless, as usual. The stadium wasn't even half full!

and the point was that while castleford's crowds are very good, had we posted a crowd like that we would have been bagged for it.
