On the subject of flags, it's a matter thats been discused by those in charge of your safety that wooden flag poles will no longer be allowed in the stadium only plastic flag poles. So those that like myself will not be allowed with their official flags which we bought for the Wembley final as they come with a wooden flag pole. From my experience the poles were too slim for a 3 year old vigorous waving and snapped within 5 minutes of buying it so I replaced it with a slightly thicker and sturdier pole within the at the time regulations for both our stadium and Wembley. So I would just give you the heads up on this latest ruling which comes into force for the next home game.

Is it now allowed to punch fans though? As seen on SSN on Saturday evening?

| Don't shoot the messenger! As i say my sons treasured flag is involved too!!! It's a blanket ban for the stadium as you always get whats the difference if you can bring them in for Giants and not for Town. As Saturday proved if someones intent in using something as a weapons they will with whatever they can get their hands on, bottles, Lighters, seats, coins, stewards I personally don't see the big who haa with wooden poles at Giants.

| The RFL needs to issue guidelines to the clubs so there is continuity across the board. But it'll be a cold day in hell when the RFL actually does something FOR the fans!

Yeah but they relented due to the fact it isn't actually against the law for rugby whereas it is for Football. The flag situation is a little contentious to say the least!

| What an absolute farce!
Like at some grounds where you're not allowed to take in bottles [plastic even yet you can take in a cheap, £3 steel flask to throw on to the pitch!

| Aye i know. I was amazed that after being with the Millwall lot on saturday and all their complaints regarding flags and such to find their ground doesn't allow flags at all!! And they aren't allowed any flasks neither and yet many attending sat had flasks!! but flasks may soon be banned too.
I don't mind flags and I've always gone with the rule of thumb ie thicker than your thumb longer than your arm not allowed, otherwise it's ok but even this isn't allowed now. Like I say I'm just giving a heads up on the situation.

Mainly away fans generating a monotonous and incessant THUD THUD THUD throughout games, e.g. Wigan, Wire. Don't mind so much when used occasionally to generate a chant as Big G does.

My daughter was stopped by a steward from taking her Giants Flag on a wooden stick into the Warrington cup game.
So either that was over zealous stewarding or the rule was already in.
She was gutted and without the lucky flag that game turned into a nightmare.

Tbh it was this game where the issue was first brought up! As the week before there'd been a conclusion relating to wooden sticks for the Town games where all official town flags were now on plastic sticks. So therefore it meant confusion for the stewards. It needed clarification and it has been since discussed and the outcome is a ban on wooden poles. I feel for your daughter as I too have a son who loves waving flags and would take his flag everywhere if I allowed him! I'll just head to B & Q for a bit of plastic tubing and replace mine as I'd rather spend a few pence rather than have to replace the flag at a few quiid!

Wishy
Who would be able to give me figures on the number of injuries at the Galpharm stadium caused by flags (during a Giants match)?
Where are the rules for spectators on show - how would wigsey know the rules have changed and how are these changes communicated to the fans?
Who were the fans representatives in these clarification meetings?
There appears to be some 'throwing the baby out with the bathwater' and I think it needs further discussion.

Yeah it could and we've argued that point too as most stewards feel awkward taking sticks off kids!!! But they feel plastic isn't as bad as wooden.
