| Hanbury hardly sprang up like a spring chicken. He was obviously dazed. Shouldn't the captain go u to an injured player and encourage him?
Remember, he left the pitch and went to hospital later.
I too saw it all happen. The only thing I missed was Brett's push on Hanbury, hence me thinking that Mr Silverwood had given the penalty the wrong way. The referee was totally orrect with his decision.

| Yep, the referee's decision was spot on and BF got what he deserved.
What it didn't need was for one of our 'supporters' to tell the in-goal touch judge that she hoped his water contained nic because he got BF sent off!

| Not too fussed by the Ferres sending off. Fully deserved. Straight red every day of the week.
But on the flip side, the lads really seem to have got some aggression in them now. Not too long ago there was a scuffle broke out and our lads stood and watched the other lot run in without lifting a finger to defend their teammate.
While you'd never condone violence on the pitch, you've got to stick up for yourselves.
So a little part of me says well done to Brett Ferres.

Well said, I agree entirely.
And the comment above, re the nic, made me chuckle, it brought back memories of another female supporter who threw a chip buttie at a linesman at Whitehaven a few years ago. It hit him right on the back of the head and there was ketchup everywhere. Wonder if it was the same fan?

| Can I just point out- neither incident was anything to do with me..... Although I do wish I was the one who'd launched the chip butty!

Have to disagree with the above. I love a bit of biff and i think our players have been to soft for too long but Ferres's actions were just plain daft.
We had got a scrum he runs after a player pushes him for no reason, gets a push back and then clocks him in front of an official.
It was completely unnecessary , un professional and could have cost us the game. What it did do was cost us some extra points on our points difference. If you look at the table that could still be crucial in determining who finishes 4th and who finishes 7th.

My head agrees totally. My heart isn't too upset that it's us doing the pushing and shoving for a change.

| Sums it up for me too Steve
Yeah it was dumb and could have cost us in the immediate
But it's symptomatic of a bit of bite in the team that had been noticibly absent - it's that bit of mongrel that wins silverware I think
And we just been to be smarter about it than Brett was - but like Steve, I'm kinda glad it happened

| Which strikes me as harsh given that's the same Sneyd got for a higher grade charge that didn't end in a red card and did end in player injury
Good old rfl being consistent as always

Did Sneyd not have the option of an early guilty plea either?

no he didn't - you can only take EGP on gradings A-C and initially Sneyd was charged on Grade D

Interesting, I wasn't aware the grading affected the egp!

| First game ive missed in a long while due to being on hols but kept upto date with the game abroad on social media and thought when ferres got sent off it would be an uphill struggle
but to my delight we got the win, a big win at that over at widnes which is a hard place to win at...delighted!!
how did simpson go again?
sounds like taai and hughes were the best players for us
seen the highlights of the tries, looks like i missed a good day out with the travelling fans too!

| simpson was mainly well marshalled, and the victim of some big hurtful hits by some of the widnes forwards, but on the whole stood up well again, robbo was back to his best buzzing around, but the best thing for me was the spirit, we could have easily crumbled time and again, but we grew stronger every time widnes scored
at 30-16 the score didn't flatter us one bit!

Simpson had one bad early error but did not dwell on it and showed up well again, Leeming did well too.
The support was decent but I am sure if Widnes fans had got behind their team a bit more it would have been even better. Widnes were for me the loudest and most vocal fans at Newcastle the lack of atmosphere on Sunday was a bit of a let down but perhaps they are saving themselves for tomorrow and ready to out shout and turn over Saints
