| Quote ="FLYINGPROP"Tell you where, me and my dad were painting the dressing rooms, cutting the grass at fartown on a ride on mower, repairing the stands, then I would come back down at night and train with the likes of Billy Cook, Jimmy Johnson, Big Dennis, Frank and Boothy and it made my day when Frank the kit man gave me an old Fartown Jersey with no8 on the back to train in.
Then when they became the Giants weekends were spent again with my father off to watch amateur games scouting for players, he had the likes of JJB, Gilmour, Westwood to name a few down for talks before they signed for other clubs because we couldn't afford them!!! He managed to pick up the likes of Stuart Cocker, Steve Booth, Mark Moxon, Adam Hays and the Ryan Hudson, Paul Jackson, Leroy, Eorl ect after them.
That was after my father played alongside Rob Valentine, Spanky Dyson, Bob Hagan, Tommy Smales ect in the 60's. Me having played in the Colts with Fazza and helping out the 2nd team when short. So as you can see I like many others, have given alot to Fartown.
That's where I was during the 80's ect but what relevance has it?
Are you saying if you were not watching thru the bad times we don't want you as fans now cos that's stupidity.
I welcome everyone who steps thru those turnstiles to support the Giants with open arms and so should everyone else cos it's not like we are full up at the moment!!!!'"
No you missed my point utterly, my point is why not congratulate the fans that did go, rather than bleating on again about the ones that didnt.
Why not take a leaf out of your examplary book and rather than posting on an internet forum about "pathetic support", go and volunteer to hand out fliers or something.
The more fans a club gets, the more fickle they become. Accept this fact and stop giving them another reason to not bother going.

| Quote ="Code13"We could fill the Galpharm each week with season ticket holders and people would still say our support was crap.
We get a higher than average crowd, on a Friday night which are traditionally poorly supporter accross all clubs and people whinge there werent Enough there.
I've been watching the giants since the mid to late 70s through thick and a LOT of thin.
But I 100% understand why people may have stayed away on Friday night.
And to those people who were there on Friday, can I ask 3200 of you where were you in the mid 80s?'" There were probably a few that were and probably lots that weren't but what's that got to do with it?. Unlike you I don't understand why people stayed away (except those with young children of course). The trouble is when the chips are down there seems to be hardcore of around 3000 ish who've turned up which for a team who finished 4th is really poor. I felt sorry for the players - looking round at the empty seats they must have felt heartened that so many people had not bothered to turn up and show their appreciation for what's been a difficult second half of the season. We have still finished 4th. The bigger debate is without support the team can't flourish and progress, if we can't progress we'll maybe never win anything and we need as many people at games as possible as Ken and the club are trying to do. It must be very frustrating for the club. Maybe some of the people in Huddersfield just are'nt bothered either way - its a shame.

| Read my last post.
When the chips were REALLY down there was a hardcore support of 300, not the 3000 that were there last night.

| Ah yes the Keighley 32 all draw of 1986 when 303 supporters turned up.So you are saying for a club that finished 4th in Super League in the modern era with massive advances in marketing, media coverage and facilities anything over a crowd over 300 is a bonus?.

| A steward - manager at the ground told me there was 4,124 fans at the Leeds end of the pitch, including the rest of the leeds fans down the sides this would suggest around 4,500 Leeds fans turned up.

| in the 80s i was stood with austin(flying prop) supporting the team i love and i know for a fact both of us have introduced a lot of friends and family into becoming giants fans, but it still doesnt make fridays attendance any less pathetic every reason i have heard for not going are valid, but it doesnt stop me been any less fed up with yet another poor crowd when we have to actually pay on the gate.

| Why, exactly, or even vaguely, should people go and spend hard earned money, sometimes quite a lot of money, to watch a team that has by all measures been utterly awful in the last 2-3 months?
Why should they give up their Friday nights to watch a team, that 7 days earlier got utterly, completely and comprehensively smashed out of the park?
If you cant understand why people might choose to stay at home and watch the game on Sky then I really dont know quite what you expect from people.

Ask the Wildcats fans the same question. They managed to get 6,428 through the gates for a game against Crusaders having had 40 points put on them for the 5 weeks previous.

Impossible given that stand holds 4,054 and there was netting on the front plus a fair few seats dotted around! Granted you came in numbers but not to that extent!

| i cant believe people are trying to make the excuse that a few bad months where we havent had the best results, played away at wigan, saints and warrington twice. with having alot of injuries to key players. means that fans cant show up to one big game which could have put us 80 mins away from OT.
if fans will only go to games when where winning why support the team at all why not go and support wigan or warrington then they wont see a few bad months and can be happy. fair enough we dont have the biggest support the crowd on friday was beyond a joke.
i have sympathy for the fans that had a genuine reason for not going but its very dissapointing.
and people saying having a go at our fans doesnt help anything well neither does not saying owt. we have been on tv alot of times this season but we have had bigger crowds.

| I notice Wigan only got 6790 for the game against Catalan. I know they would have all been Wigan fans. But they did finish second in the league and won the Challenge cup.
Most of the crowds for the play-offs have been the very low, so there is no point in having a go at the Giants support as all other clubs involved have suffered the same apathy.

thats called being a bandwagon/fairweather supporter.
if people aren't interested or willing to watch ( i wont use the term support) that has poor spells on the field and in general then i suggest they stop calling themselves supporters.
we as a club have battled against these kind of people for years, im sure they would be rather support a team that wins regularly, im sure we will see a few "giants fans" defecting soon if thats the case.
im sorry but as you and i,and others on here are well aware due to being there in the bad times, you support your club through thick and thin, good and bad, true, loyal supporters dont stay at home and watch on tv because the team lost the week before.

So you would be happy if we have 5000 who come to games as long as they were all "proper" supporters.
Personnally i would settle with 10,000 glory hunters and bandwaggonners and i am sure that Ken Day and Richard Thewlis would as well.
Stop being so precious about wearing campaign medals about how we were around in the dark days. The club needs money through the door now, whether that is casual supporters or diehards matters not one iota.

Spot on. All welcome bandwagon or not. you can't have it both ways.
Why don't the uber loyal supporters call themselves Ultras or Brigantes or something , make a few flags and consider themselves better fans than everyone else....oh no that's a different team.

| Before anyone else has a go at Giants fans consider this scenario
You play your best Rugby ever for 3 or 4 decades.
At home you score 50 or 60 points in over half of your games in a season.
You play scintillating RL all season and score over 1000 points in a season.
You win your first league title for 40 odd years and you are having the trophy presented at home in front of the cameras after a game you look like comfortably winning.
You get an attendance of 10,000.
If that had happened to the Giants we would have got well over 10,000 to the game.
