Agree with you on those positions. Murphy and Ormsby are just squad players for me now if we want to progress. Let Murphy train as a centre and Ormsby for the wing instead of being utility's. I'm not so sure Gaskell etc have signed. If they had what would be the hold up to announce now? Unless we are waiting to announce the better players first so fans don't get underwhelmed with the signings of championship players.

After the season we've had I wouldn't be underwhelmed with championship players. The signings are good signings if they come.
Being a point away from the million pound game and having such injuries at the start of last season we need all the players we can get! Being picky isn't an option.
Class players don't come cheap, we can't just take any player we want. We aren't a club currently attractive enough.
We start again in 2017 and build from the bottom. Past sucsesses are history.

I take your point here because we know Escare's game well enough, and his capabilities, But to be fair to RS i don't suppose he does, where as you have to think that if he brings Mamo in , He must rate him. Myself i would have had a look at Escare and Pelisier, But we have to give the Guy a chance with at least some of his own choices.

From the clips I have seen Mamo looks a real class act, full of pace, jumps to attack and catch the high ball, good hands, everything we lack and have done for quite a while, hopefully Rick wont coach this out of him like we seem to have a habit of doing

Think I will trust in RS judgment thanks all the same - have you even bothered to research Mamo, or watched him in action before condemning him as a nobody? Personally anyone choosing to come to the Giants at this point gets my full admiration. Sure some don't come cheap - that's life in any business - Mamo is young and would fit our need to cover full back or wing.

Totally agree FP. Thought the same when reviewing his highlights. If RS wants him and he agrees to come half way across the world then that will do for me. Have been hoping this move comes about since first rumoured. Big move for a young guy but could be a good move for him and the Giants.

Newcastle fans were raving about him when he appeared on the scene..... more recently however they are a lot less complimentary. Below are some examples from this season.
"don't think Mamo will amount to much as a fullback, personally. He lacks the skill-set of a modern day fullback. The fact he hasn't got the ability to properly ball-play by now makes me think he probably won't ever get there"

Not all the recent comments I saw were negative- many were. Of course Newcastle Knights fans could just be a set of moaners.......

You have to remember he has gone into a team getting stuffed each week and have not won any games this season. If we were going on about say Joe Wardle this season you'd have to say he is championship at best wouldn't you? Fact is Mamo is 22, lightening fast - something we lack and has a brough type attitude, hates to lose....that is something not a lot of our players have. Many are tipping his style of play to rip super league up. I'll judge him after the first 6 games. I've heard we may be signing him for the wing and we could have another full back lined up. Well have to see.....

Jo wardle championship? Erm no I wouldn't at ALL say that.
He's 22 and he brings..... well not the leadership qualities we are sorely lacking! Of course he's a fullback so could just be Newcastle fans scapegoat. I'm not saying he isn't a half decent fullback but what worries me is we will be paying him A lot of money to be half decent. Money we weren't prepared to spend on our own 22 year old. He won't come for peanuts and he will be in a lot more than our 22 yr olds.

To me this is a mohair issue, not just for our club, but for the whole of Super league... But, sticking to our club, Thewlis stated they offered more to Connor than they have ever offered a 21 year old.... They missed out on him and now will have to spend more on someone who is a similar age... Doesn't send a good message to our academy... Compare this to Tony Smith who dropped Sandow for Patton.

In regards to Mamo, I watched a lot of NRL this year and he has one thing that cannot be taught and that is speed! Something I personally believe we are hugely lacking. Now we will have plenty with Brierley and Mamo (if he comes). He also has a bit of flair to him. Overall, I think he will be a good signing. His key asset is speed, people need understand this and don't expect a Brett Hodgson type player. He's not perfect, but he's young, fast and can score a try. Put him in a winning team and I believe he'll excel. Put him in this years team and he would be ordinary. Former under 20's NSW rep player, so he's definitely got something about himself.

Again, no one knows the money involved unless you are privvy to the negotiations.

I'm pretty much 100% sure he won't be on any less than Connor was offered. We may not know exact contract offers, but it doesn't take a genius to work out that an Australian will be on a higher contract with house payments etc etc...

mamo sounds like just the sort of full back we have been lacking for years, pace that can beat a man and good in attack that can come into the line and cause opposition teams problems... all the top full backs have this and most sl teams apart from us! shaul, ratchford, tomkins, hardaker, dorn, lomax all pacy..about time we added an extra string to our attack at full back

Escare has signed for Wigan as cover for full back and wing position.

according to what Newcastle fans are saying he doesn't have grrat ball playing skills of course compared to what we have (nothing!) hes no doubt better. Escare could have given us speed for less money- he's going to play second fiddle to Tompkins at Wigan. I just hope that the gap between SL and NRL truly is chasmic- he may well then turn out to be a fantastic addition!
I'm not bad mouthing the lad- he clearly is a decent player - it's what we are paying for yet another Aussie that I'm unhappy about. The value for money only happens if they have been forced out /embarrassed out of aus a la carney, Monaghan, segeyaro due to the vast differences in salaries. We have more overseas players than ever before - if we are paying those wages we must be squeezing our own.

Can't judge too much on a players past wether it be successful or not very good..

The only stats I care about are the ones he makes on the pitch in the claret and gold.
The player's need to keep their heads down, work hard and let their rugby do the talking.

Plus at such a young age.. He's certainly deserves a chance! We will see plenty of dropped balls etc but who doesn't drop a ball now and then. It's how we support the player afterwards.
We could just do a 'Grix' on him and slate him every week.

Rick Stone, though I'm totally unsure on him has done what he needed to do last season, so I suppose we have to trust his judgment.

Exactly what i've said, pointless discussing a player's ability and what he might and might not do, i judge every player on what he actually does WHEN we've signed him and he's on the pitch playing.

Got to disagree with this... As a fans we can't help but put on our imaginary coaching caps on.. Of course when players are signed or rumours about players pop up we are going to look at how they have played at previous clubs and see how they would fit into the giants team/squad... It's just a natural thing to do...

One thing that I would never do is bag a player before he has been given a chance. Everyone deserves a chance, sometimes everything just fits into place for certain players at certain clubs.
