Got a season ticket, shirt, lifeline so don't question my commitment. Wouldn't have gone if I'd have had to pay my own way - not going just because free coaches are on - simple really. Maybe people should question why people are now going just because there are free coaches, who wouldn't have gone otherwise.
Hope they realise they have to pay to get into the ground

Silly question! I think more people would travel to various attractions etc if transport was free. Would have cost about a tenner each otherwise and not everyone can afford one or more coach tickets on top of admission.
Also, it should get us more fans there and a better atmosphere.

Go to most away matches and going to Gateshead too there will be three of us on the coach booked it today plus like the idea of donating the 5 pounds to LISA.

An absolute fantastic gesture by all concerned and those now involved in the organisation of it.

However I do think Col and Starbug have raised some valid points, especially when we can only currently muster 1,300 in our own back yard, and that's without a 10 hour round coach journey on top. How many of those will be willing to take up the offer remains to be seen.

Additionally as Col points out some will already be spending the weekend there (16 of us are doing exactly that, travelling up on the Saturday) others will be away on holiday, working and some will already have made alternative arrangements by this stage, prior to the offer announcement.

Gateshead Thunder will be rubbing their hands though.I do hope it's a success, but I just wonder if Leigh could of generated extra income for say, the Monday B/H Halifax match by having sponsored buses running from Atherton, Golborne, Astley, & Hindley etc with a BBQ & pre match entertainment thrown in.

Free local transport to an 'August Bank Holiday - Family Bonanza' and all fully advertised accordingly .

It would certainly be better suited to appeal to new or lapsed supporters.

That's my view, but I will be at Gateshead anyway as I already have a freebie sponsors pass for the match

I think you've missed the point in what the idea is about.
Leigh need to stay up, getting a decent away following to back the lads will improve the chances of them playing better (or should do), true fans will pay to get in at Gateshead but the idea is to back Leigh in there relegation battle , this game is a massive one for both clubs.

If the club and the generous sponsors didn't put free coaches on we'd have taken a small amount of fans (compared to what we will take now), basing it on current performances and the fact its our 2nd biggest away trip.
It shows a sign that the club are willing to commit something to the fans by trying this out (how many other clubs are doing this these days).

Its is a good idea by the club and deserves to be successful.

Hope we can get coach/hotel sponsers for next years trip to Toulouse

Some people can't see the wood for the trees when it comes to the reasoning behind the free coaches. Even if it means we only have 40-50 extra fans on the day, it will still be a huge boost to the players.

Read leonardo's comment and there is your answer - we need to concentrate on home games and home crowds. Saturdays game is far more vital than Gateshead, and more winnable. Get people to the home games, generally only die hards will go to away games irrespective of offers.

And irrespective of the crowd, Gateshead score points for fun and we can't compete with that.

Its too late for Toulouse (and was always going to be IMO) I still feel Gateshead is a huge game and needs a big away support which is what this is all about (especially as the home support is not known for being massive), equally its the first time the club have done this for a long time, perhaps the start of the club following what the fans want and thinking like a club thats main finance is its supporters.

Don't forget we took circa 15 coaches to that Hull KR cup game the last time the club did this so I do disagree with the irrespective of offers bit.

Saints also score points for fun in the CC, Huddersfield managed to score more than them though at the weekend - you never know



At the end of the day its a win win situation for all concerned.

After the Halifax away game I said we had 7 games remaining to turn it around, 5 at home 2 away and our fate will be decided in those home games. We have since won 2 out of 2. Other team's results since then may not have entirely gone our way but we have three to go and it's still these three that will decide our ultimate fate...

I do not wish to sound that I'm knocking the offer, I think it's brilliant and the sheer fact we are trying everything possible to help the team should be appalauded. I sincerely hope we can go out and fill 15 coaches but I will state the following and I do so after having attended every one of our games this season other than the match in France.

No unfortunately I don't think it will. I therefore stand to be corrected by the team.

Also IMO I think a one off CC match which is widely percieved to be a great leveller, played under all the allure and romance of the competition and one that is also on a shared gate basis is a seperate set of circumstances to an away league game 200 miles away, despite the cup game not necessarily being as important to the club as picking up results are now.
