Club has a strict pay structure and is not prepared to make an exception for one player. Current players have all felt the financial pain, and the Board does not believe it would be right to then offer anyone higher terms than the rest of the squad.

Andy's agent had agreed the deal on offer, but it would appear that he hadn't agreed it with his player, who feels he should be able to get a better deal.

Whether he does, or not, remains to be seen.

Alan, you cannot have a pay structure whereby all players earn the same basic, if we are doing that then I am in shock. How can a squad player at 18 years old earn the same as a JT for example who will play 30 games?

It is a ' graduated ' pay structure , with all senior players at a set limit , Andy would have been on the same as JT,TG,TG,SL,SM

People need to understand he's a young lad. Look at Widnes they got the NRC under there belt and had two average seasons and went up... We dont need to win a trophy in every season. We need to get some youngsters progressing and make them into potential class players for our super league application, The likes of Pownall, Hoppy, Nico are the examples and Gerrard is another. I think we needs to be patient this year and not expect to much but by the sounds of it things are looking relativley decent

Its easy to increase gates if you have the income.

I disagree with some of the Widnes fans comments on here.A strong lad but lacks pace and will never be a Superleague player.He will do a steady job only.

How do you know he will never be good enough, When Riddy came to Leyth he was am average "steady" player but now he is probably super league quality #leighmakedreams

Varks and Danny Hulme are better players than Gerrard.We are all entitled to an opinion.

Matter of opinion mate but if Danny Hulme was that good surely he would be in the Widnes super league setup along with some of the other waste of spaces they've kept hold of. I've not seen much of Gerrard but I feel we are really good at descovering players potential he cant be that bad if he's playing at this level for two of the biggest names outside of super league... We will just have to see how he develops

Danny Hulme was unlucky not to get a contract but with Briscoe,Craven,and Jack Owens he has no chance.Coyle,Leuluai,Haggerty and Allen where lucky to get contracts.Anyway goodluck for next year.But Gerrard is average.

To be fair he was playing in a crap team with an over rated coach.

Some players flourish under certain coaches and at certain clubs, he may play a blinder for us. I'm still stunned that Steve Nash got a contract in SL with Castleford, just goes to show anything can happen in rugby league lol!

I have never rated Nash either, and was crap at Widnes aswell.I hope Gerrard does well for you though.

Good player and be a good addition to your squad.But Gerrard you are having a laugh.

Our players won't come into our SL application. As in all good sporting competition it will purely be down to our business plan ie money. At this moment in time SL is a million miles away.
