Being reported on the France federation site(ffr13) that Millward has been appointed as assistant coach.

was told today that IM was at the club yesterday avin a meeting with stuart littler trying to sort a deal out with him to bring him to leigh that came from a very good source now not sure what is gooin on

Littler signs for us every year.

missing the point if there was a meeting with littler yesterday then either IM is a gud actor or the paper is wrong

whether he goes or not,he's still got a job to do.

But it looks like people are going to force him (IM) out with comments like I have read on this thread, why oh why can't rugby league fans and Leigh fans in particular not keep their gobs shut (or typeing fingers tied up in this case) until anything is officially announced, its like a set of bloody rabid dogs about to pounce on anything that anybody says on the subject.
Our Dave spoke to Millward yesterday and they have arranged to speak next week on Millwards plans for next year, also when I spoke to him last week he was after me making plans to give him more visual information on a match day.
So lets give it a rest and stop the assasination attempts until something is known definately, as we are quickly becoming the laughing stock or rugby league again because of some on here.

I don't know if the article is true or not but surely IM agreeing to come to Leigh on a 3 year contract was based very much on an ambitious 2012 SL application project.

We now know unfortunately that we are unable to tick the SL box until at least the 2015 season, two points (not necessarily connected to the MEN article) :

A) Does anyone realistically now expect a double SL G/Final and Challenge Cup winning coach to spend the next 5 years plying his trade in The Championship?

B) How long can this club continue to afford (or indeed need) a head coach on c£85K per annum at this level ?

if its not true then a statement should be issued by the club to that effect and the newspaper in question should print a correction/apology. Its not as though a vague rumour has been published - it reads pretty factual to me.

As far as Freds comments are concerned, if Millward is driven out by us nitwits on a message board then he is not as strong a character as I thought he was! The bottom line is we all care deeply about the club and we get very worried when there is any suspicion that the coach or the board feel otherwise...

If £85k figure is near the mark how can Salford, or any club, pay that for an assistant.

I'm sure the people at the club will have had a chat and if Ian was to jump ship they would only allow this to happen if something was in place (ie: we wouldn't be left in the lurch).

However its a press report and a speculative one at that.
Only comment on the speculation would be to stay it would be a strange move to go as a assistant coach.

If he wants to go, let him to go. To be honest, after seeing IM to correct the failings of our defence out wide for months on end, I've reached the point of questioning the logic of paying a fortune to a coach who can't change his tactics when a similar amount of money could mean we have two or three class players in the side.

Of course hes always loyal to Leigh hasnt he, so they mustnt be true

How come Salford are suddenly splashing the cash? Have they found a new backer?

But as an assistant with view to becoming head coach....?

Hopefully IM will get the palyer he wants fr next season and Leigh will be back on top.

Well when I heard you had signed him last year I asked myself the same question as I know he does not come cheap. Several years ago I bumped into David Howes and he asked me if I wanted Ian Millward to come to our club to do a fund raiser. He said he had done a few successful nights at various clubs and it could be a good money raiser.I asked what the format was and he replied "that he did an hour or so`s chat about himself then there was pie and peas or whatever the club wanted to put on". "Then he did a question and answer for another hour or so". He said that the other clubs were charging a tenner,I thought that sounded a good and would be something differant for our supporters. However he went on to say that I would need around 100 people there to pay for Millward I gulped "you mean he`s a thousand pounds" ? Well yes he replied . So I then asked who paid for pie and peas well you do so you would need a few more to pay for that and hire of room. When I said well after all that hopefully there may be a bit of change for the club I was fundraising for he gave me a funny look. Needless to say I did not take him up on his offer £1,000 was an awful lot of money plus in all the years I arranged ex-players ,managers and ex referee to come along for fund raising I have never had one ask for money.

I think it's worth mentioning that apparently 12 people have applied for Salford job.

Oh, and please remember Neil Barker is not exactly the most respected journalist in the area, or any area for that matter.

If he does go I'd like to see either Robbie take the reins, the guy at blackpool or the guy at rochdale.

Vikingman will be pleased to hear I will definately not applying for the vacant coaching job at Widnes but I am reliably informed that the favourite for that job is currently coaching in Cumbria but is interested and has been approached by the Widnes chairman.
