| I'm going to give my Mother what for when I see her - she's a Westleyther and I'm a Wigan Roader so you'd think I'd be an expert in Pobs - I am officially 'deprived' now and when I see her I'm going to insist she makes me some pobs or she's going to be in big trouble. I'm probably going to need counselling now.

| As a kid, I used to be given a mug of hot OXO. An OXO cube dissolved in boiling water and drunk out of a mug, with toast to dip in.

Ah now that's something we used to have a lot but we just used to rip up a slice of bread and put them all in the OXO then spoon it out.
Another of my favourites (and I still have it now) is to get a boiled egg and chop it up into a cup with a bit of butter. Chuck in a ripped up slice of bread and add a bit of salt and pepper - delish!!

I have that regularly!! Absolutely delicious. I'm gonna go on Come Dine With Me, that can be the starter, lobby for main meal and pobs for dessert. The £1000 is in the bag!!

| While we're on about food, I remember back in the 1980's I used to get a pastie and a cup of beefy soup from the shop under the scoreboard. The soup was so thick you needed to slice it and was full of pieces of beef, delicious! I think the shop was run by the owner of the Picador at the time. Great days!

| My mate in Haydock has had "pobs" every day of his life. Strong tea made in the teapot then the teapot placed on a gas burner/ring till it's bubbling in the pot. Bread and sugar in a basin then pour scalding tea into basin. Sounds disgusting but at 70+ years under his belt he's still very healthy and active.

| my grandad got me hooked on syrup on toast and lemon cheese on toast and that bring s me to another thing .....
When my and the hubby were courtin I had too... before going on a date see to my little sister, ie find her, grt her in (which wasnt easy at all involved chasing her down street on foot whilst she was on her bike) and get her bathed, give her supper and ready for bed before I could go out, Its true this too , on top of washing up etc, this was after working sometimes from 8 till 7pm lol, she used to say when asked "What do you want for supper", I dont know, to which I went through the whole kitchen cupboard before as always she asked for lemon curd or lemon cheese on toast, Ive never eat it since!!!!!!

Is that the same as 'flat cake'?? - raisins, etc in a short crust pastry 'cover'........best served plastered in butter while still warm from the oven!!
On the subject of 'pobs' - can remember as a kid, if I had to undergo any 'work' at the dentists that required gas or needle, I'd get the rest of the day off school......and my Mum would always make me pobs - so I didn't have to chew!!! Irony is though - what with the sugar in it....was probably contributing to the tooth decay anyway!!!

| Had a Yates and greers 'growler' for me dinner today, not had one for ages went past the shop and bang I was in.
When I was a young 'rookie' at Leigh nick in the 70's we used to have newly baked ones from the factory first thing in the morning when on earlies, no 'jelly on top though as they were too warm.
