He also has a Finance background, which is very handy. No need at all for a "traditional" chairman with Derek around. That would just create a "this town isn't big enough for the two of us situation" sooner or later - been there, done that. Mike will get on with the job efficiently and without histrionics... |

Two things here. How come there was no thank you to Michael Norris for his time as Chairman? And if Allan Rowley has been given a life membership, how can that be taken away? Surely, regardless of who gave him the life membership in the first place, (it was Beaumont), it can't be taken away.
As for Latham getting the Chairman's role, that was always going to happen. One thing is for sure, he will never tell Beaumont no will he?

Back on topic, I have a lot of time for young Mike as a Person , a Gentleman, and as the most sincere and fellow passionate Leigh Rugby League supporter you could ever wish to meet.
I could talk to him about our club for years especially around its formation and the years of 1877 to 1895. Very interesting period indeed.
I could not think of a more knowledgeable person or anyone that would question young Mike's suitability or integrity to fulfil the role in anything other than the professional manner we come to expect of Mike Latham.
An asset to Leigh RLFC. Congratulations my friend.

[i1) How do you know Michael wanted a public Thank you?? He left the post months ago to focus on his business but didn't shout about it.
2) People make mistakes and if knighthoods can be taken away then surely 'life memberships' can also. Life Membership imo should be for the Brian Bowmans and Tommy Colemans or the Fred Parkinsons and Frank Taylors. Folk who give cash in times of crisis (often what they can ill afford to give) or give time without reward to the club they love[/i

| Oh dear, this board never changes does it? People openly state on another thread that they want THEIR team to lose games and nothing is said (and in fact some on this thread openly agreed) and you call yourself fans!! 
Everyone knows I dislike Beaumont, it's no secret. I'm quite sure he's not keen on me either, so what. I don't know why I need to be bitter, I just don't like the man. Get over it. |

Congratulations to our new chairman. I have never met him but he seems passionate and knowledgeable about our club when I have seen him speak and well regarded in the Rugby community. He also seems like a really nice bloke |

To be fair, in the 7 pages, only one person said they may want the team to lose didn't they ?
And yes you are entitled to your opinions ,I enjoy reading your views and all my fellow Leigh supporters views, regardless if I personally agree or not is irrelevant. It is your opinion

To be fair, in the 7 pages, only one person said they may want the team to lose didn't they ?

My point was in NO way questioning Mike Lathams attitude, skills , or ability ,all of which are 100% exemplary, I'm just saying as Chairman,what extra things he will bring to the Club,that he is not already bringing ?I'm disappointed because I was hoping a certain Palestinian horse racing enthusiast,might be tempted to join us
Mike Latham knowledge and the way he handles the Presentation evenings are perfect,probably can't be bettered,but I feel our Club would benefit greatly if we had another investor to help Derek.

I don’t know Mike Latham personally but he appears to be a great guy and speaks well so hopefully a good appointment, I wish him well.
I too as Charlie says would like to see another major investor, as although I have no axe to grind and I’m gratefully for what DB is doing, it is concerning that we appear to have all our eggs in one basket so to speak. And just like MK walking out at Salford where would it leave us if DB walked?

We all know that teams, coaches and owners come and go but it's the club that matters. Without Derek's financial input we would not be the club we have been since 2014 and I am sure you can recall the mess we were in prior when your beloved players hadn't been paid and a winding up order from hmrc was 48 hours away.
Derek owns the club, he puts considerable amounts of his money into the club which allows him the right to run it how he wishes, that's how a business that has a majority owner works. He doesn't need opposition in the boardroom he needs people he respects to quietly advise when requested or if they feel the need to, Allan did this previously but was paid to do so by Derek and Arthur before him - something I am sure Mike won't be.
Do I agree with everything Derek does or how he does it, certainly not but that doesn't stop me doing what I can when I can in support of the club I love. The alternative is the bitter and twisted agenda you seem to have, whilst either ignoring or being oblivious to the potential damage you could be doing to something you 'love' or is it just yesterday's players you have that emotion for who now ply their trade elsewhere |
