| I mentioned this earlier and thought it interesting to explore. Of course no player is irreplaceable in truth, but certain players in our squad are closer to being "replaced" than others.
Clearly there are salary cap implications, so if we consider like for like "improvements" for similar cost. The definition being "could we improve on that position for the same cost". The improvement could be a more youthful version of the current player or a stronger player. I would suggest the following would fall into the category. (By no means am I suggesting that any of these players are not "good" nor "loyal servants"icon_wink.gif. All speculation anyway as we don't know the salaries involved.
V Anderson
L Anderson
Clarke
Mathers
Hicks
Briers
Wood
Higham?
King (based on reputed salary alone)

With Mickey getting a new contract and Monas and Clarke contracted till 2011 how would that work ? 4 hookers ?
Well that's more than Ipswich but surely too many for us ?

| I'd use a Gold, Silver and Bronze rating system within regards to 'importance' to the side. Golds being essential to the squad and must play as much as possible over the season, Silver rated as reasonable importance but are able to turn out gold star performances, while bronze are of lessor importance or younger members of the squad.
Gold:
Morley
Monaghan
Briers
Westwood
Myler
Carvell
Solomona
Silver:
Bridge
King
Hicks
Atkins
Higham
Harrison
Pwood
Landerson
Grix
Riley
Mathers
Bronze:
Vanderson
Clarke
Tyke
Mitchell
Cooper
Blythe
Penny
Thompson
Neal

| All players are replaceable - to brand a player as "irreplaceable" labels them bigger than the club which they fundamentally cannot be (although arguably some where in the PC era, or at least thought they were). Yes it would be disappointing were some to leave or retire & they will leave big holes to fill, but the nature of sport is that players are replaced.
Sean Long irreplaceable at Saints? Ask Kyle Eastmond. Sam Burgess irreplaceable at Bulls? Well Nick Scruton seems to be answering that pretty well this season. Adrian Morley retires & Mike Cooper will step up to the mark. Lee Briers goes & he will be replaced. Ben Westwood leaving will allow Lee Mitchell or Tyrone McCarthy to prove thier worth.

You could apply the same thinking to Arsenal. Patrick Vieira leaves...Alex Song steps up, Thierry Henry leaves, gives Niklas Bendtner a chance to show what he can do. Ashley Cole leaves, Gael Clichy gets his chance. Doesn't mean that they are going to be anywhere near as good.
To brand a player as irreplaceable doesn't brand them bigger than the club, it brands them better than any other player that club could realistically sign, or have in their own academy ranks, if they leave.

| Briers is the one who's the most 'difficult to replace' as he's a maverick, a one off, unconventional, not to mention gifted. When we do replace him, our style of play will have to alter with it.
I'd be happy to replace him with someone like Greg Bird or Brett Hodgson, and play him at six.
