| Quote ="saintc"I dissagree. That would have meant risking over-taking people which could have landed him in bother"'"
You mean like when Hamilton overtook down the start finish straight and almost came to blows with another car under braking when he had no need to take that risk at all in rain spray conditions, i take it you don`t watch F1 very often because if you did you would know that Raikonen is one of the worse drivers in F1 in the wet.
Do you remember Silverstone ? Thats where neither Ferrari could handle the wert conditions, that ended up with Raikonen doing more pirouttes than Torvill and Dean and then sliding off the track and smashing his car into a wall. Raikonen has been driving poor for most of 2008 and in the wet the McLaren is the far better car, Hamilton should have been able to get in front of Raikonen without much risk and it would have been game over for Massa then as Raikonen would never have been able to get back past him.
At the end of the day McLaren and Hamilton got away with it by the skin of their teeth, they were far too conservative and under your theory of not over taking people which your saying could have got him in bother he could have been taken off the other way by being overtaken himself as its quite easy in those rain sprayed conditions to not see another car coming especially under braking at a corner where a lot of overtaking is done, apparently Glock didn`t even know Hamilton was there at the end.
Its been pointed out that Lewis Hamilton lost points because of the stewards this season, what people seem to have forgotten is that Massa lost 20 pts this season through no fault of his own, his pit crew let him down where he was given the green light to continue when he still had the fuel hose attached in Singapore whilst he was comfortably leading the race and set for the win, in Budapest his engine blew with just 7 miles to go whilst in the lead and dominating that race.
I wanted a british world champion especially when it meant that ferrari wouldn`t win that title but you have to luck at the whole picture of the season along with the last race and in my opinion Hamilton was a lucky winner as him and mcLaren almost made a right horlicks of it and then you have Massa virtually having 20 points taken away from him through no fault of his own.

Who has knocked Hamilton ? Some people like myself have pointed out he was a fortunate winner and that McLaren and himself were within just one corner of losing the world title when it should never have got to that point.
You even admitted yourself he was lucky in a previous post, he was and thats the overall point, it shouldn`t have come down to luck.
Quote ="mark_m"Luckiest win ever but he deserved some after that shambles when he had those winning 12 points taken from him earlier in the season. '"
So what about the shambles where Massa`s pit crew let him down and gave him the green light to leave the pits with a fuel hose still attached to his car in Singapore whilst leading the race and firmly in control, also Massa`s engine blowing up just 7 mile from the end of the race in Budapest whilst in the lead and firnly in control. Thats 20 pts Massa lost through no fault of his own.

| So what if nerves did get to him a tad and he did very nearly botch it up, i'm not sure it's such a crime. He must have felt like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Yesterdays changing weather conditions were very testing, obviously for driving but i'm sure the mental strain he was under, he simply must have been doing what he believed was right and it nearly cost him, the early pit stop a lap too late putting him behind the eight ball from the early stages onwards. I reckon on another day, with less riding on it Lewis would have been bolder and come up two laps earlier and been one of the aggresors in changing tyres and taking the race by the scruff of the neck.
It must be tremendously difficult fighting your instincts as Hamilton seems to be forging a reputation for being 'over aggresive'.
Anyhow, History won't show how he won it, it'll just show Lewis Hamilton, youngest formula one worls champion in history.
Good on him.

Thats not knocking him, thats an opinion that i felt he deserved nothing this year given what resources were at his disposal. Knocking him would be doing similar to what some posters do on here when they talk about the likes of Kevin Penny being crap *not my opinion*, ive done nothing more than say that Lewis Hamilton deserved nothing this year given the events that folded out over the season and on sunday and backed it up with reasoning which is what debate is supposed to be about.
Knocking him would be getting personal and calling him all sorts under the sun and you will find its something i havn`t done, anyway thats my last on this as it doesn`t need anymore saying as my opinion has already been given.

| Sorry to be a pain again, but.....
In Horse Racing, Red Rum won 3 Grand Nationals, and 30 years on we all say it was Red Rum that won the Grand National, his jockey doesn't get much of a mention.
Yet in Formula 1 the 'jockey' gets all the glory, the car/mechanics get none..
Aren't the 2 sports the same in that the jockey/driver is only has good as his horse/car??....Then why the difference when handing out the glory??

I would say driving a formula 1 car requires more skill than sitting on a horse and whipping it to make it run faster. Also the horse is a living thing and deserves recognition the car is a machine.

James Allen has been absolutely garbage as lead commentator, which is the reason why BBC haven't given him the job, instead opting for Jonathan Legard.
It was obvious that Brundle would be moving over to the BBC. His pitlane walks are brilliant. icon_smile.gif
The biggest plus point about F1 moving onto the BBC is that F1 fans don't have to put up with that smarmy Steve Rider!

| I was cheering like mad when Hamilton was overtaken for fifth and livid when he got back into fifth. The scene in my house was not dis-similar to the Ferrari garage.
Nothing to do whether I like Hamilton (has he now over-taken Federer as Switzerland's top sportsman?) or whether Hamilton is a great driver (although I'd like to see him try and break the 2 hour barrier to Brentford) or a lucky driver; I had money on Massa for the championship since day one and as they say "it matters more with money on it".

anthony hamilton is a very wealthy man,he is his sons manager,he also had enough money to put young lewis into the hands of ron dennis at a young age who then bankrolled his career path.
anthony hamilton the snooker player has a funny little beard and never wins any ranking titles.
the mendacious wire wins once again,oh and by the way i am the best driver in the world, not you or little lewis.

| Well done Lewis Hamilton who, by finishing with most points after 16 races, is deservedly the F1 World Champion.
I feel a little sorry for Lewis reading some of the reaction to Sunday. When he 'goes for it' as he did in Japan he is all but crucified for his immaturity. But when he, and his team, go for the steady and cautious finish (considering his engine was in its second race) he is crucified for not taking the race by the scruff of the neck and winning in style. Yes, he was lucky on Sunday, but how much bad luck, and very dodgy decisions, has he been hit with during the previous 15 races.
Some points from reading the thread:-
If the McClaren is 'the best car' how do people explain Kovalainen, in an identical car, finishing the season in 7th place 45 points behind Lewis?
If Alonso is so good, how do people explain both Alonso and Hamilton finishing on 109 points in 2007 when driving identical cars.
If Massa and his Ferrari are so good, how come they didn't win the world title despite all the assistance that FIA and the stewards were able to give him throughout the season?
Hamilton has had it easier than most getting into F1, but having said that he has still had to come up with the goods as he has climbed through the ranks. Ron Dennis wouldn't have given him the car if he had been average in the lesser classes.
And whoever it was who mentioned Lewis's girlfriend only jumping around for the TV cameras, I take it you were in the McClaren pit to see what was going on when the director was focusing on the race!
