2 points.
1. There was no one with him to protect him and for him to pass too or playbthe ball too. The team were 30 metres behind.
2. He had to play the ball. If he didn't. It would be a penalty anyway for delaying the play the ball. So he is in a no win position for that play.'"
True but he could have realised that and took his time getting to his feet perhaps? Composure.

The thing is. He already delayed getting up to play the ball as it is.

| Quote ="Gazwire"2nd half very dissapointing. But that first half was excellent.
They upped their levels in the second half but the game changed on that ridiculous ref call against Matty Ashtons catch stolen by French. We made many pivotal individual errors too which didn't help. For Kai Pearce to release that ball was Nicholsons fault (he's young and learning though). Then it was a lesson in targeting our other younger players.
Wigan were missing a few, but they're back line is absolutely lethal - the best in sl by a mile - against our young inexperienced players.
There's some encouraging things there we can take with us against lesser teams than Wigan.'"
Our problem is, like the Saints and Catalan games, the players actually got up for this game and put in a half decent show. However, we never seem to be able to get up for consecutive games and that's what is now desperately needed.
You are right though, that poor call on the high kick which French knocked on was a major turning point and Wigan were just ultimately too good and better than us, but the effort can't be faulted tonight, we were just done by a better team.

The overall attacking structure was miles better than under Price, with a much more experienced squad. A few better executions and it would be different game.

He is absolutely delusional. He was happy with that performance.
He is making excuses.
Oh.
He's just said we are talking rubbish.

Nearly as laughable as the amount of stuff you make up on here maybe?
Should have had 3 in that first half: the ball was moving much better and it was an even game with us at least matching Wigan on their own patch.
You're probably unaware, but young players take time to bed in and learn from mistakes. Welsby etc, they've made mistakes and learned from them. We've got 3 young inexperienced back 3 players who look exciting and will be worth the investment. They need to make their mistakes to improve.
Anyway, Powell ain't going anywhere, so chew it.

| Quote ="Dita's Slot Meter"Was I imagining the errors that Thewlis/Wrench/Ashton made then and was I imagining Wigan deliberately targeting them, because they knew they are the weak link?'"
All teams target wingers and full backs. The difference between a good side and a bad side is that the good sides make sure it's difficult to put up good kick in the first place (usually the forwards' job) and/or give the winger or full back some protection from the chase (usually centres and 2nd rows). Regan Grace isn't a great player under the high ball, but 95% of the time he is taking poor kicks under little pressure. We hang out our young players to dry.
If we are talking about targeting, I'd mention Wigan's first try where Holmes was originally beaten by Field to create the break, then made a pathetic attempt on French that enabled the final pass.

We were gash again in the 2nd half. 32 unanswered points, loads of blown chances and ineffective pack.
Powell will be out the door if we lose to Tolouse.

First half excellent? We bombed 2 or 3 chances, and Wigan were poor. We didn't capitalise. Sign of a bad side.
As for your second,....well that went well against HKR, Hudds, Wakey, Salford etcetcetc

| Did Powell really just say on Sky we are looking to the future and building something special. He’s officially lost his mind.
Completely out coached by Peet tonight Wigan had made 2 interchanges at 50 minutes knowing they’d destroy us late on.

He should be out before the sports news on tomorrow morning's BBC Breakfast sports news.
Knowing our board, he'll be as gormless as ever, at 1945 on Thursday night, when that Aussie woman goes through her banal "questioning"

| Sorry, haven't read all the thread.
To me tonight and the saints game look like a team who were trying harder because they didn't want to get humiliated, the rest of the games they give it a bit of a go then give up. Why or whose fault it is I have no idea, Also its awful seeing Cooper and Briers celebrating in those colours.

| The worrying thing for me is that 14 out of tonight’s 17 are here next year. If Wardle stays it’s 15. It’s Powell’s side so of course he has to shoulder the responsibility.
Anyone questioning whether the coaching team are to blame have to look at the statistic that we have conceded 30+ points in 12 out of 22 games this season. Last year we didn’t conceded more than 30 points in any game .
Be careful what you wish for
Put everyone (including Powell) out of his misery. Nothing personal but he isn’t the right man and I hate to think what McGuire and Vaughan will think having been coached by the best.

You're asking me do I take drugs? From someone who only posts crap/unfunny attempted jokes. The only drugs around here are the laughing gas pellets you have to take after posting one of your crap/unfunny jokes in order for someone to laugh: ie you.
I take it you didnt watch the game and see the speed the ball was moved out the backs to move around their forwards. Did you notice how much more dangerous we were with Michaele and Bullock on? They gave us much more space, especially Williams who looked extremely dangerous. We should have gone in ahead at HT, we were at least as good as Wigan.
Second half, they ruthlessly targeted our weaknesses. You might want to consider too hiw dangerous that Wigan back line is.

| Powell now looks like a man that realises he doesnt know how to fix us. I feel sorry for him. The board need to relieve him of his duties. There is not one shred of evidence showing we are getting any better. The effort is there we are just poor (just like Tolouse)

| I think it's hard for the board to sack Powell now, he has taken us to far down the rabbit hole with the amount of changes and they've backed him to the hilt, in for a penny. I've been keen to back him too as we have under performed for years given the players We've had. Things needed to change but listening to his post match comments every week is putting me off him.

| We're beating Toulouse next week. And we'll have another win at least by the end of the season.
Next year, with Powell in charge, we will be top 5. Mark my post if you like.
Anyone disagree.
