| Quote ="garyhulsefan" I do regret to inform that Penny did take a bit of stick from our fans tonight. quote
Why? No player can defend half the pitch on his own. Penny was left so isolated, he had about 30 yards to defend.

| Quote ="Ande"They need to get Laithwaite and Currie involved more, both players have great potential but didn't see enough of the ball tonight and Westwood was a bit anonymous apart from the pass around the 10th min when Penny knocks on when he could have scored.
I thought Sims made an impact in defence and Hill made the metres, neither were overly bad IMO. The halves were all over the place for me, the organisation was non exsistant and if Ratchford was a t 6 they might have created more.
Fair play for plugging on and keeping the heat on us, you'll beat plenty of teams if you play 80 mins like you did the last 20.'"
I was expecting A LOT more from Warrington's front three. Going into the match I figured it was a definite threat.
Sims was ok..ish. But I've no idea where Hill was tonight (aside from the last minute).
The lack of forward momentum was a significant factor in Clark's almost total nullification.
Westwood did ok. But it was like watching a cruiser trying to slug it out with a battleship. Saints seem to be anywhere up to 6-12lbs heavier per man.

Exactly what my sister and myself said in response to the blame/abuse being lumped on Penny.

| Penny struggled tonight. He was lucky he finally got hold of that ball for his try, you get the feeling he's one dropped ball away from a crisis of confidence.

I've seen most of his performances this year and I don't get that feeling. At all...

| I thought it wasn't one of Currie's finest displays.
Atkins bombed a certain try in the first when chose to demonstrate his poor judgement and passing techniques with the line in front of him beckoning.
I think some of us assume, because our kicks didn't find touch or turn a man, we had a bad kicking game.
I didn't see that in the first half. Warrington we clearly told imo to keep the ball live. Not to kick it dead purposely as to burn St's out. It was working too. It was our errors and 1 or 2 dubious ref calls that let Saints off the ropes.
Saints were the better side and no complaints there, but they only just beat us.
There is a lot more to come from us.

I've said all year I think you will win it this season. Leeds aren't that good and Wigan have turned up to the Tour de France on a BMX. If we could get Walsh on the field with Burns we'd push you, but we'll have to do it without Lomax who is said to be out for the season.
The last ten minutes warped the game, Saints were very comfortable tonight. Two kicks from charge downs and you made it exciting. But Warrington despite year after year of failure under Smith just don't seem to have learned the lessons. The default mode for Warrington has always been to go expansive in big games. There are games where you've got to earn the right to score by doing the grind first. Smith should look at videos of how the NRL sides played against the SL sides and copy that. Conservative, down the middle rugby, a quality kicking game and tough defense with a quick line. Earn the territory and hunt the error.
You have also got to get some faith in a 1,6,7 combination and stick with it for the season. Chopping and changing those key positions is mindless and can lead only to disruption.

| We were away at the unbeaten leaders, champs and best team ever to play the game. Our pack was second best or obliterated/smashed/demolished if you're using mugwumps book of overly giddy adjectives. We played pretty poorly (we even made Wilkin look good) and saints played very well...we lost by 8. No need to panic.

It was beyond bad... it was embarrassing... Poor kicks, lacking distance, into the hands of an unchallenged saints player time after time.
We didn't turn them around once.... They made huge distance on us on the back of that kicking game... Then as a result we were pinned back near own own line on pretty much every set.
if you didnt see that in the first half... and you think THAT type of kicking was a ploy by Smith.. then you're even more barking mad than i originally thought.
onto the game.... i thought we did very well to get within 1 score at the end, given the field position we gave away... How Bridge is getting a game at 6 is nothing short of amazing. He may as well not have been on the pitch last night. To say he was a passenger is an understatement.. Felt a little sorry for GOB having as our own HB on the pitch.
Still early in the season.. hopefully the management learnt a few lessons from that last night.. no disgrace losing to saints at their place... They played it well.. they knew our kicking game was weak and they pinned us deep in our own half and didnt let the wingers run from acting HB like they did against Leeds last week.
Im also really struggling to see what all the fuss is about with Currie.... im wanting to like him, but he just seems to go missing for me... Now and again he does something decent.. but its just now and again... He was meant to be 'the next big thing'.. To me he just looks bang average.

| Very disappointed in Warrington. I felt you were one of the few capable of pushing us close this season. Not on that you aren't.
I feel for Chris Hill. Deserves to play for a Saints, Wigan, Leeds etc.

Yeah, well spotted. I know you guys have tunnel vision after your record breaking 5-in-a-row, but there is more than one trophy in the rugby league.

| There are far too many deluded on here
Half backs alongside, if not the worst in Super League - Whether that's O'Brien and Myler or O'Brien and Bridge. Smith and the club are totally to blame for allowing this to happen. The club knew Briers was gone December 2014. May have been too late for last season, but to to go into this season with no controlling half is scandalous. This is one of the key reasons that we will always be there or thereabouts, but not quite winning the GF
Kicking game that is at best NW Counties standard - 7/9 out of 9 kicks in first half down Saints players throat, allowing 20 metres gain before the line gets there, compared to Saints, who had our back 3 scrambling about for a bobbling ball as it should be
Most worrying thing is the fact that our vaunted pack got smashed, dominated and obliterated from minute 1 to minute 80. Daryl Clark playing like a man who a) Doesn't want to be here and b) Just waiting for the contract to run out so he can either get back to Cas, or to NRL.
Sick to the back teeth of Smith saying we learn lessons, when we patently don't.
Yes the CC wins have been great, but most fans want a GF
Still it will only get worse once Smith concedes he'll not get us to win a GF and leaves us with the joy of Richard Agar - Can't wait

If I'm over-inflating our pack's performance - you are doing likewise insofar as the overall team performance is concerned. Cunningham should quite rightly be asking why Saints didn't capitalise on complete midfield dominance with a thirty or forty point margin.
And conceding three unassisted walk over tries is just criminal.

i agree... we scored 3 very soft tries... You should have won by much more than you did.
Saints targeted our weakness last night and did it very well. A teams pack will always end up beaten if its spending all its time trying to get away from its own line. Saints just pinned us down and didnt really let us get out.

Highlights some of the delusion on here. If that's the plan kicking wise, we are well and truly fecked

| I still can't fathom why it's Bridge and GoB's responsibility, tho. Yes, there's an argument that one or both could have kicked better. But surely they can't be more culpable than the forwards. Aside from Westwood there really didn't seem to be much fire in their bellies at all.

I don't think you can really argue that either team had the rub of the green with the ref when Wire were seemingly granted immunity for headshots - I counted at least five that went unpunished. You want to talk rub of the green let's look at video ref decisions from a week ago...

| This is not doom mongering, but I am trying to see where progression is after last season. However, last night was very disappointing, but not surprised by that game. Sts won the GF last year and have kicked on massively where are we?
They spent a period last season without their recognised playmaker/positional kicker and what happened?
Where are we with our lack of playmaker/positional kicker?
They have chosen to spend time with an aging (sorry John) forward to improve his all round play in the halves. What have we done with supposed talented young halves?
We are no better off than we were last season and it worries me that our hierarchy cannot see this! Bridge/GOB, Myler/GOB, Wheeler/GOB are not the answers to the conundrum. Is the answer Ratchford/GOB or GOB/Patton?
Who on earth is mentoring/coaching the halves?
I guess once Joel is fit he will slot into centre/wing with Penny at FB and Ratch to partner GOB.
Last night how many times was the ball passed to GOB only for him to be hit by a big forward? How many times was he caught on the wrong side of the play on the fifth tackle?
Currie was poor and looked out of his depth, how many times do we have to put KP through the mill of leaving him to defend on his own, its poor from those around him and the coaching staff need to work on that big time.
Ashton Simms, really, is he the great white hope? I haven't seen (apart from Leeds) anything to make me sit up and pay attention.
Overall last night too many players were hiding, there was a lack of commitment, a lack of leadership, a lack of drive and ambition and worse a lack of direction from the side line. If going all out one week means that rubbish the week after then we will never achieve our goals.
There is much work to do at the Wire, have we got the right personnel on and off the pitch to do it? History is the past and what happens next cannot rely on the past.
