To be fair it was live on TV and compared to Leeds 5300 and Bradford 4200 on Friday night and no other matches on TV. It stands up quite well.

Great atmosthere in one quarter of the ground. I arrived about 1.10pm and the only people around were Wire fans. The Huddersfield turnout was a disgrace, even allowing for the leeds United match.

You can't compare it. It was fourth v second in SL, it was your chance to get revenge for the Cup Final, the tickets were only £12.00, Leeds played Blackpool and Bradford played Leigh, where were your fans? We brought arond 3000, surely Hudds could have managed a few more than 3,600?

totally agree fella.. twickers was poor in 2006, but last year was worse as it was wembley..we dont have a strong fanbase due toprevious 40 years of crapness

Totaly agree, but there are various reasons,:-Hudds Town,Leeds Utd, Leeds RL, Bradford Bulls all within 14 miles plus the fact that we have been in the RL wilderness for 40 odd years, If you look at our average support for the last 5 years we have achieved year on year increases,it will take time and having better consistency would help.
Remember you are talking to the supporters not the people who do not turn up.

As for the attendance, I know CC cup attendances are generally lower than league games but for the tie of the round with two top four sdes who were both desparate to return to Wembley, 6000 was a poor turn out. I'm sure the Hudds club will be dissapointed with their home support, can't fault those who did turn up though.

Your fact about other teams being within 14 miles, the same could be said about the Wire, we have 4 premiership teams and 3other super league teams with 20 mins drive. Plus according to the many of the know it all RL fanners the Wire have done nothing for 35 years so in that case we compare well with yourselves



Unfortunately for the Giants you caught the Wire on top form today, everything went well for us, some lucky calls.

I do think selecting Hodgson was a mistake for you guys though, will todays game be a set back for him? , he certainly didn't look fit.

In 30yrs of watching the Wire(not continuously may i add)that must go down as 1 of the best ever performances i've seen.It was a joy to be there + what an atmosphere.No question about it that the fans were like an extra man.Really glad i decided to goicon_smile.gif

best supports in the league imo over 3k hopefully this will persuade alot more to go leeds...up the wire

we've been saying for a lot of the season that sometime we were going to click and give someone an absolute shoeing.

3138 i think was the official away crowd, very good and very vocal . . On the point of our turnout, very disappointing im struggling to think of what more the club can do to improve it, yes we have had steady increases over the last few years but less than 4k for a cup tie which was the tie of the round was pretty poor. But when ppl comment on our crowds they should also remember that unlike most super league clubs we haven't been a regular top flight club for most of the last 30 years, indeed most SL clubs have never been as low as we were with regards to league positions attendances etc,dont forget that 20 years ago we struggled to average 1000 fans in the old 2nd and 3rd divisions. We have lost generations of potential supporters to bradford leeds etc in effect we are having to build our support base up from scratch basically something that clubs like wire haven't had to do, i think its becomin obvious that the ppl of huddersfield simply aren't interested in the giants

Sometimes you just have to look your opposition in the eye hold out a hand and say.....totally agree with ya mate. If this game WASNT a repeat of last years final people would have been talking about a gate of around 6k allowing for the mass Wire support. Part of what made it worse was it was played in a stadium with a capacity of nearly double the HJ. It might have been better if they asked all the giants fans to sit in one stand and basically shut two. My wife and daughter were watching at home on TV and rang me just before the game to ask "where is everybody"....... I told her look to the left when the game is on and you'll spot them all.

If warrington weren't going Well this year i doubt even half those fans would have come, it was certainly the biggest turnout of wire fans I've ever seen, but like I've said i dont think there's much more barring a grand final or challenge cup win,that our club can do to get bums on seats

Meast you are probably right, if the wire were mid table playing inconsistent rugby, we would have taken fewer fans. Looking at the Giants as a club they are well placed in the SL, have a great ground, a cracking season last year 3rd in league and runners up in the cup, plus you have been to the final twice in recent years. Surely you have done enough on field to attract supporters.

The offer of cheap season tickets albeit a good deal to begin with may backfire for you guys long term, how will fans react when they have to budget to pay more for their rugby? Even cheap tickets for adults and freebies for the kids couldn't entice your regulars yesterday. I'm afraid there's no easy fix for the problem you may have to look how other clubs have been successful at attracting support. Unfortunately the worst thing that may come from yesterdays defat is that the paying supporter may decide not to bother next week or the week after until your form improves again, same things happens at the wire and probably most clubs unfortunately.
