| Myler did indeed have an excellent game on Saturday, and when he takes the line on he has always looks extremely dangerous ........ but as lefty says, he simply doesn't do it often enough. This, allayed to a very average kicking game and a habit of going missing when we need direction and a flourish means he has never been, and never will be, the half back we need.
There was a moment in the semi when the momentum was against us and our grip on proceedings was loosening by the second and Myler was caught on camera at a scrum. He looked like a schoolboy whose lolly ice had just dropped off it's stick. No animation, anger, passion, direction or leadership whatsoever. Interestingly, in this weeks RL press Myler himself admits he has never been the most vocal of halves and leaves that to others.
Of course, you don't have to be vocal to be a good leader. Many great captains and players have let their deeds and skills speak more loudly but I'm afraid, on the whole, Myler has failed to lead the team in any fashion, vocally or otherwise.

| All posts pretty much spot on he's very capable on the front foot but tends to look around for others when all's not well, his admission of not being vocal seems to point to him having to concentrate on his own game, halves have to be vocal and lead.
All the very best to him.

| One of the finest half backs we've had was John Parry Gordon and he hardly ever uttered a word during the game, you don't have to be continually gobbing off to become one of the great halfbacks.

| Good luck to Richie next year. His wire career is probably 7/10 which is a shame because he's not really progressed as he should have done.

| Parry Gordon,sure was BBHO.
Myler always has had a good defence & has been superb at supporting & running through gaps created for him which is what Smith probably signed him for. His defence will be sorely missed as will that of Bridge.

| I've got a sneaky feeling that may discover that we now have the perfect half back partner for Myler just as he's about to leave.

This is bound to happen isnt it...... the pair will be on fire for the rest of the season and we will be saying 'how did the club let myler leave like this'

+1 Myler could very well thrive off Mr Sandow....if he hits the ground running of course, we could upset a few before season is over.

+ another one here. Myler's form has been good, especially recently. Perhaps a combination of wanting to leave on a high, (good for him as he could have just sat back once the deal was done) and a lifting of that weight of expectation?

You can if you've got a good kicking game. A pack can struggle to get to their own 30 off their own line, but a kick that turns full back/wingers around and get the team right up field or a 40-20 can change a game that was falling out of the grasp into one that you can win.

| A good ,accurate kicking game, sometimes early in the tackle count can mean opponents having to leave players back in defence to cope with surprise kicks over the top. That will then leave their forward defence light in numbers so helping the attacking forwards. The more attacking options a team has the more an opponents defence has to cope with.

| A half back cant be blamed for being behind a beaten pack is only true when the pack of a very quality. The pack half decent pack will not be beaten if they have good guidance form the half. This is has been our downfall all season, everyone moans about the quality of the pack but without the quality guiding halfback they will always suffer. With Sandow onboard we will be guided around the park with his distribution and good kicking should ignite the pack to better go forward.

| If we get beat by Leeds, and especially if Hudds beat Wigan tonight too, then I do not see the point in Myler or Bridge playing another game for us.

| Briers & Myler
Carney & Myler
Brough & Myler
Sinfield & Myler
Brown & Myler
Walsh & Myler
Sandow & Myler
...would all be class halfback parings.
Myler has unfortunately fallen victim to having to be the leading creative player in our team, when that's not his game. I've lost count of the number of times on here you hear his support play or defense being lauded. He's the perfect foil to an off-the-cuff creative player. I really rate him, he's a lynch pin of our team IMO, and our form has been better this season since he come back from injury. That final season partnering Briers in 2013, he was on fire, a shoe-in for a starting World Cup place, and possibly our best player until he hurt his knee in August.
He's our drummer, setting our rhythm, and keeping things ticking over, occasionally chipping in with an amazing solo. He's one of the best drummers out there. We've just been missing a lead guitarist for the past few seasons, and expected our drummer to fill his shoes, rather than recruiting a proper replacement.

| How long is Myler's contract with Catalans ? I just can't imagine him settling in France and having to speak French(a demand of the coach). He's a relatively young man and we could see his return to the HJ in a couple of seasons when the coaching staff will likely have changed who can see his true position as a fine support player and not as a Briers replacement.

That should be the other way around, we need a rhythm section, myler is the lead guitarist

I would say myler is more the drummer and Sandow the lead guitarist although the person leading the pulse will switch every now and again eg in a guitar solo. Also the hooker/acting hb will contribute to the pulse as perhaps an auxiliary drummer.

| whoah, lets not go overboard. Myler is a decent player, a good support player and a good defender, but he's nothing more than that. He hasn't progressed as a player or added anything to his game since he signed from Salford IMO. So many anonymous games, more of those than not.

| I stand to be corrected, but in MHO all that was needed was for Richie to spend a shed load of time with Briersy and borrow his kicking boots. Sorry to see Myler go, I think we will miss him.

| Myler is a good player but far from being a great player as a No 7 . He would be more suited as 9 as he needs to be less off the cuff at 9 and can still back up and follow play. But we have better 9's so lets ship him out.
Smith rates O'Brien as a better player with Sandow than Myler hence the reason he will be still here next year.
