This stuff works both ways.

Williams will obviously be on less money this year and then he’ll sign a three/four year contract that makes him become marquee. Win win for both parties.

I think we're just desperate to get the deal over the line, if we can't get him in for 2021 there could be a risk he doesn't sign for 2022 if he can be accommodated elsewhere.
