He just makes bizzarre choices which highlights why i don't think he'll ever get a head coach role at top level ever again.
Hughes back on the right will massively improve the defence.....but do nothing for our attack. Butler needs game time so i hope he makes the bench.'"
I understand your point but the selection for the last game was difficult. Like Price, I think that we only really had one "forward" Currie available and capable of playing second row. I know lots on here thought Davis, Clark or another forward could play there ... the coaching team thought not ... and I think they would have been really struggling for pace.
As soon as we lose a second row the problem will be there again. The squad is wafer thin and players have to shuffle. We will be shuffling all season.
It is not easy picking a side with such small squads. Wigan shuffle players about probably more than us.
It would be interesting to see what team you would have selected v. Hudds.

We have two back row forwards in the squad, both on loan. One has been recalled this week, only to be re-loaned out. Why not bring him back for the Huddersfield game.

| Good question? The answer must be either that they are not thought to be up to it or the loan agreement is not flexible enough. Certainly if they are up to the job then we need to re-negotiate the terms of the loan.

Duckie and others after you WTF? What has Josh Thewlis done wrong to deserve to be dropped? Just interested to know as I must be watching a different game.

Not being dropped. Playing to the strength of the team. We’re shipping points like the Titanic. There isn’t a reason to drop him I’ve just removed him as a squad decision to suit the current slump.

Looks a very good player to me and I'd like to see more of him at full back. I too would prefer to see Lineham on the wing instead of him.

Aha.
Let's stop fancying about, square pegs, square holes.
He's had some experience on the wing, let him have a go at fb, this last month will have done him the world of good

I reckon if Ratch was tearing it up when he played at half back you might do that. But Ratch seemed to play a little bit worse each week. As my Missus chirped up ... I've never seen a player who throws so many passes straight into touch. He can be infuriatingly loose/casual at times.

If anything, just do it to silence fans of there clubs who say we ignore academy talent and sign past-it duds. This is our chance to showcase a few of the young talents. He's already won two Sky MOM awards and FB is his natural position. Ratch is a better organiser than Austin at HB, even if he lacks the individual threat in attack.
Looks like Inglis is out indefinitely, so it's a chance to pick something and stick with it.

Well, I think this season he's done it twice - once at half-back and once last week in the centre where he hasn'tt played since 2012. I don't think Ratchford is an outstanding half-back but I think we've looked more creative with him there this season than Austin. And it pains me to say that because Austin looked so good for most of 2019.

Yep ... my missus is very unforgiving.
I think she is looking back over his career. I have always liked him but he has always been a bit loose/casual.
I think Austin is a better bet.

Exactly, an easy choice for me. Thewlis is not a winger and I suspect Price put him in originally to give him more first team experience. Young players are normally full of mistakes, but Thewlis is a bit of an exception as he looks as though he has been playing the game forever. Add to that some good runs, solid catching of the high ball and finishing off tries and he has become very difficult for Price to drop. It's hardly creative thinking therefore to play him in his specialist position, although with Price who knows, he will perhaps play him at hooker. Ratchford's best best position is definitely at FB for me, but he can certainly do a good job in the halves. And it's worth remembering that he is not getting any younger and we need to bring on a replacement at FB. Austin showed a lot of effort and determination last game, but he will not be here at the end of the season so no need to sooth his ego by giving him a game.
Having said all that my prediction would be that Price will bring back Lineham and use Austin in the halves with Ratch at FB.

| The Thewlis situation is a bit like Welsby at saints. When Perciavl, Naqauima, Grace, Makinson and Coote are all fit Welsby was missing out.
Then there will be a point whereby his place in the team is more secure than the more experienced regulars and then he gets a regular slot. Welsby has never deserved to be "Dropped".
I am pretty sure over the last couple of years when Makinson picked up a big ban or when precival was returning from injury that welsby did a good job
The problem we have always has is that we never appear to play well enough consistently to give some of the younger players a go and rest somebody. With us it has always been out of necessity through suspension or injury rather than rest and reward because we have not been playing well enough to have that luxury.
We have a few games coming up against Leigh, Salford, wakey and Hull KR (no disrespect intended here) but against 2/3 of those teams we should be able to give some younger players a chance but I just don't think we will be playing well enough to roll that dice

| What I cannot understand with some is that the complaint is that youngsters are not given the chance at Warrington like they are at other clubs but now that Thewlis has been given a chance some are saying we need to leave him out; Full back is his best position but if the only chance is for him to play on the wing then so be it; he has certainly NOT let the team down in any of his appearances. His run of games, wherever he is selected to play, will make him an even better player.
Mark my words he will be a full England International within the next 4-5 years, that is how highly he is rated and I hope and pray that is as a Warrington player.

No chance its far too sensible and definitely the squad that should be picked! Plus that sort of sensible thinking may make the fans happy and we don't want that! What about daz Clark to wing instead of Lineham and butler to play 9 so he gets some game time?

You could well be right. Won't be easy to get him fit, then [imatch[/i fit too. We'd have to find a way to do it late in the season when we really need to be peaking.
Shame. Hope we've made some money on the merchandise though, and at least he did get to play. Two tries in three matches means he'll leave with a 67% strike rate. That's a little bit of a positive in all this melancholy isn't it?

After a defeat it seems to be the norm to wish to go back to experienced players only. Same thing happened after we lost to Salford last year in the cup and the call to put Ratchford at fullback in place of Ashton.
Neither Ashton then, nor currently Thewlis now, deserve to lose the shirt.
