| I thought Toby King was our stand out. He caused lots of problems for them especially under the high ball and defended well against some big units.

| These threads pass me by, like picking the sides for the weekend, and predictions of scores MoMs and attendances, however , I'll give this one a go, on today's game
Halves 4 each. They were really not the standard required, if we want to lift the cup. It's time for both of them to go.
The rest, all 5s, with a few 6 and a rare 7.
To win a cup, the worse you can get away with is one 6 and a couple of 7s.
From Ratchford's 2nd minute fumble, to Patton NOT finding touch with a penalty (criminal), to too many players "going through the motions", we were well short.
Time to dust themselves down and get ready for Hull
Thompson will be available, along with Akuala (yeah, I know). It didn't look like we picked up too many knocks. Westwood came back on.
Time for Patton to stake a claim, again.
Onwards, Wire

| Brown stunk the place out today. Both him and Roberts can go now for me. The pack was poor too. Completely out enthused and out muscled.

| Clark is doing well in these ratings. What did he do? Two years ago he was unlucky not to get the LT (only a brilliant performanve by Houghton denied him), today I barely saw him.

Agree Clark wasn't great, but Clark is great when we get a quick PTB. And today we didn't. So he was running at set lines.

| Their front 3 (Moa,Mcllorum,Casty) set the stall out in the first 10/15 mins of each half and dominated our front 3. Their defence in that first 10 mins set the platform for the game- they were belligerent and were insistent on not being second best.
That game was there for the winning if our defence matched up to their ferocity in the opening encounters, but we didn't match up.
It's lesson learned. Hopefully that taste of defeat will serve us well in the gf playoffs.
On a side note- congratulations to Catalans and Steve McNamara. Really chuffed for the the fans in the south of France, the players, and Steve McNamara who proved his critics wrong once again. I'm gutted for the Wire, but, every cloud has a bit of a silver lining- (Catalan fans/first trophy outside of England).

| Thought Philbin was our only forward that took it to the Dragons, was strong in defence and actually managed a bit of go forward. Our best player I thought.
I’d have to watch it again, but didn’t think Lineham was to blame for the first try, Goodwin seemed to move in because of a late Wire retreat (Livett?), at that point Lineham hasn’t got much option but to come inside also.
Edit: there was a late retreat from Clark and Goodwin did jump in, but Livett held his shape well an Lineham did put himself in no mans land, possibly looking for an intercept?

| It was a fascinating game to watch yesterday. Daryl Clark was the quietest I've seen him in a long time. He just never seemed to get into the game, even in the couple of stages where Catalans were fatigued and making mistakes. Was he injured perhaps and covered up in the build up? He took a knock against Cas and hobbled round for a while and just didn't seem himself yesterday.
The other notable performance for me was Chris Hill. He's a player who was up there as potentially England's best prop a couple of seasons ago, now I wouldn't pick him at all. He seems lightweight and if you take away the grubby stuff he does, there really isn't much left in terms of impact on the game. Still a workhorse but nothing like as effective as he was.

Great post, and as a neutral, a fine game, well played Wire & Catalans.

You have forgot to mention Yaha, he must be a 9/10 at least. Without him you would not have been close to a win.

| Unlucky Wire, As a neutral it was easy to see the wire problem not much go forward against a big Catalans team who were also quick to try to close you down, But the biggest problem was your H/B's who are very experience and should have tried to create more be it off the cuff or whatever but as your own fans (player ratings) suggest they did have a poor game.
Where was R Atkins was he injured or not picked because as again as a neutral when i've watched wire be it playing against Wakey or TV Ryan gives you a lot of go forward.

Atkins is coming back from injury so level of match fitness is unclear and Toby King who has been playing in his position has done a good job and was one of our better performers on the day.

| Hi Acko,
I read somewhere on Saturday morning that Atkins had failed a late fitness test.
Hope your game with Cats will be on TV as the pack battle ought to be very interesting.

| Do you think Hill may be on the decline? As a Wigan fan ive always been a big admirer of Chris Hill and wished he was at Wigan but i cant help thinking he has been on the steady decline for a couple of years. He had a very good World cup but i no longer fear him when Wigan play Warrington like i used to. Is he going the way Fielden did in his later years? Maybe too many big minutes every week at a younger age?
Im surprised Charnley had a poor game. Hes normally a big game player.

Not easy to grade Charnley, he didn't have a good or bad. He was forgotten. On that basis I gave him 5, middle for diddle.

He's currently nowhere near the player he was and completely ineffective against Cats.
