| We had the bikes thread just wondering how most people get around.
What you driving/riding ?
Future purchases ?
Favourite vehicle you've owned ?
I'll start off i have a cycle and 2 cars
My cycle is a Scott sportster P5 hybrid bought in 2008 which is a lovely bike to ride.
My cars are a Honda S2000 (which will soon be turning into an Mazda RXicon_cool.gif and a Smart Roadster Coúpe.
My favourite car is the S2000 but i used to have a Renault Clio Williams which was amazing until i killed it and for nostalgic reason always had a soft spot for my Capri, i had to have one purely because when i was a little kid it was always my favourite looking car. I wish Ford would bring out a similar looking modern version (like the beetle and mini).

| My current car is an 09 Audi A3 2.0 TDI..... company car.. nice little thing i suppose...
I have mountain bike which i hardly ever use... its a GT Zaskar with all sorts of uprated things that i dont have a clue about... cost me fortune on ebay... i won a friday night auction drunk.... i only needed a little run around to get me to the pub... i had set myself a £50 limit and i spent £280....told the mrs it was £100 and she went nuts at that price.
I used to be a right boy racer in cars when i was young.
my first car was an MG Metro turbo. it said MG metro on the log book which was nice... 1.3 petrol engine with a turbo charger on it... it was white and a total bag of sh*t.... i smashed it into tiny pieces against a massive wall... lost it in a spin on ice and the back end hit a very big church wall... the car was about 2 foot long... and that was the end of that.
so i went and did what any self respecting 18 year old would do and bought an escort RS turbo straight out the featured section of MAX POWER.
it was a best 299BHP at the wheels... full kitted out.. garrat turbo off a cosworth.. dump valve plugged.. the turbo boosted at 28psi... it was an animal.. it had a booster button on the steering column that made the turbo jump from 7psi to 28psi in an instant... the car went everywhere all over the road when it was pressed... no way could the car handle the power it was getting.... real dangerous car.. it did nearly 100mph in second.
It ended up going sideways into a kerb fairly fast.... snapped both wheels off passenger side.. and snapped both axels.. bent the chasis like a banana... that was the end of that car as well.
My favourite vehicle ive owned has been my RGV 250 motorbike though.

| Nothing remotely sporty here
Started with a Volkswagon Jetta, bought it but couldnt afford the insurance so it sat on the drive for 6 months before bloke from Manchester came and bought it, taking it home down the M63 and the engine went bang. Buyer Beware I am afraid.
I started my own business in 2000 and needed a van and a car for the family but couldnt afford both so went with the best of both worlds and bought a volvo 740 estate with 198,000 miles on the clock. Not the most presteige of cars for a 23 year old but boy did it go (2 litre injection) and it was ultra reliable. Drove it to about 240,000 miles until the Exaust fell off going over to Hartlepool for the day. Knowhere in Hartlepool had an exhaust so I had to drive back without an exhaust, kids sat all the way home with ear defenders on it was like doing 150 miles in a tank.
Replaced that with a 3 litre Vauxhall Omega which set on fire whilst we were going over to Hull to play rugby, ended up driving it into Hull after JJJ had ed down the side of the engine to put the fire out with my head out of the window as there was so much smoke coming into the car through the air vents. Returned £320 lighter with the help of Lister on the back of a low loader.
Changed that (it was knackered) for a 3 litre Omega estate which was later scrapped and down sized to a Punto when the Mrs took ill and money was tight.
Now driving a 58 plate Quashqui 1.5 Diesel, best car I have had.

| I've had more cars than I can remeber in the last 10 years, I'd say it must be approaching 20 mostly sporty types, from TTs from 350Zs to M3's, Chrysler Crossfire's, BMWs, Audi's etc.. I'm a bit of a petrol head, well was. I am getting less and less interested as the costs go up and up.
Speaking of which, I have just sold my latest car and am looking for my next purchase. I fancy something big and diesel. Perhaps a big A8, or a Chrysler 300c. Any advice?
Bike wise, never owned a motorcycle, because I would be dead within a week.
Cycle - Current mountain bike is a Genesis Core 30. Used it to cycle cross country this summer. It's now in the garage, and has not moved since the day I got back

It was bad that the car went like that and how much it cost to get home, but it was funny afterwards ... hell scrap that it was funny at the time.
Me reading my magazine and not realising at first
JJJ collecting water in a McDonald's cup from a stream at the side of the motorway
cappy and his topics of conversation in the pick up truck
To answer the original question I use public transport (mainly buses) and walk, never got round to learning yet.

| Not took any driving lessons yet so don't own a car. Quite a few mates drive now though so get lifts to most places. Otherwise just walk or use me bike but sick of it getting punctures.

| The funniest bit was JJJ was still half cut from the night before, he jumped the armco and went running down to the stream only to slip first into the stream. You couldnt make it up.

You want to get yourself a PC Doctor combo van mate, get it all signed up and take full advantage of the self-employed tax allowance.

My mate 'had' an L200, nothing but problems with it, stay away, looks great but you'll be very familiar with your local mechanic.
Recommend in that class the Ford Ranger, doesn't look great but is head and shoulders the best in its class.

Does the tax only work for a Combo Van?
I was having the same thoughts with the Nevara or the L200 having it wrapped!

For tax purposes, you can argue that a van is solely for business use - that way you'd get a bigger chunk off your tax bill. Speak your accountant first, but you also need to consider whether you want to buy it outright and have it as an asset for the business, or just lease it and claim towards the costs of hiring and running it. Mentioned the combo-type vans because we've just got a Peugeot Partner combo at work, looks the business and is dead comfortable for a van, you could easily drive it everyday if needs be.
Bear in mind that even being based at home you should still be submitting your receipts for fuel, oil, tyres, repairs etc on the car. Like I said, speak to your accountant first, they can give you a proper breakdown of the percentages.

| Gary Fisher mountain bike for getting to work. My feet and public transport for everything else.
I'm not interested in cars but half considering learning next year (I'll be 31 by then). If I do end up with one it'll be the most economical "gets you from A to B with minimal fuss" vehicle I can find.

| I have been lucky this year and have myself a 2010 Vauxhall Exclusive Nav Insignia 2.0 160bhp Eco flex green engine, best car i have had on par with my Land Rover.
I also may have been spotted out and about on my 2010 Sky Pinarello, like Bradley Wiggins bike also dressed head to toe in Sky gear!
I sold my Kawasaki kx250f in summer due to crashing and it frightened the life out of me at Leisure Lakes MX track.
But i still have my yamaha yzf750 which is a race bike. I also use Virgin Trains alot because the company i work for we do alot a work for them. Pendolinos rock!!! i also fly internally alot round the country with BMI
