Surely a Leeds tema missing Peacock and McGuire gives you a better chance of the GF? Is beating Saints more important than making the GF?'"
This doesn't make sense, as if we beat Saints we'd be in the Grand Final!
Asssuming that we beat Huddersfield, which will be very tough, then I think that Saints would be very likely to pick us in the semis. The only two possible scenarios in which I can envisage Saints not picking us would be:
1) Hull KR turn Wigan over. Surely Saints would choose Rovers over us if things panned out like that?
2) Wigan squeak past Hull KR in unconvincing fashion whilst we give Huddersfield another Challenge Cup Round 5 special and Saints therefore think that Wigan have "gone" whilst we look back to top form.
In the bigger picture, would Saints also like to avoid meeting Leeds at Old Trafford, you know, because they've nobbed them there the last 3 years as well as knocking them out of the semi of this year's Challenge Cup? By that logic, Saints might fancy giving Leeds a tie that they're more likely to lose, which after the Challenge Cup final, would be us. They take care of business against Wigan/Hull KR, hope that we dump Leeds out then they get a bye in the final.
Going to Headingley would be very, very tough though and I'm not sure we'd come through that anyway.
I'm resigned to Wires not lifting the trophy this season, so my default setting is anyone but Saints. Alas, I fear that they're nailed on to win it this time. The try that never should have been v Crusaders, the last second Cunningham try v Cas and the unbelievable Wellens try against us on Friday just serve to underline that for me.
