| Sorry but I get grumpy when I hear about money: the clubs with clear profits in any sport are few and far between. Three local Rugby League clubs have put to the financial sword: Oldham (twice), Rochdale, and Swinton. Both Salford and Wigan depend on a set of rich benefactors: Tesco bought Central Park.
The supporters who dream that the directors make fortunes from running Salford ... or Leeds or St Helens ... or even United or City, are in a dreamland.

| Smithy & Red Ry - tell you what to do. Buy some shares in the club. Receive the Balance sheet and Profit & Loss account.
You will see losses over many years as sadly expenditure exceeds income every year.
Ask yourself the question - who subsidises these losses every year?
Then look at the Balance Sheet and look for Current Liabilities & Creditors.
Basically this HUGE amount is owed to the Man you so dolefully keep criticising
and his other Directors.
These people have allowed you to watch our club totally subsidised over many years - so instead of continually sniping you should be eternally grateful in having such an admirable Board.

I think you will find Martin Edwards made over £200m from sales of his shares and dividends from United, and the irish boys about £300m, not bad seen as Edwards wanted to sell for just £10m 15 years ago.

all clubs get an equal share, the problem is the more you are on TV the more money you can get in through advertisements in the ground, so in reality some clubs do get more than others. the other problem with Sky is just how many people watch if for example the City v United game about 400,000 watched on Sky, and 8m for second leg on BBC, from this I would gather that less than 20,000 watch Rugby League on Sky, which could be a problem with the new contract, they may pay less.

The last accounts at companies house were for the financial year apr 08- apr 09. Which takes in a large portion of the National League season.
As a Salford City Reds is a Private Limited company and shares are only available to buy directly from other shareholders or if a share issue is created by the board, and not from brokers. may i ask How I can buy shares to have access to this information.

If you want to see the accounts you don't need shares, they cost a couple of quid from companies house.

Add the number that were at OT and that may suggest we have around 0.5m 'active' RL fans in this country of almost 60m.
Would be interesting to see what a 'big' Union game got?

surely thats conjecture ? the figures must be based on "live dishes" so pubs clubs and living rooms all over the country/world will just be one dish = one vote, not to mention the millions who don't have sky.

League Express debated TV audience figures after Christmas. The RU Premiership final got a similar figure, whereas the England vs. Argentina friendly at Old Trafford got over 700,000.
I know we're digressing here, but the issue they were raising was more to do with the audience profile. Advertisers, in sport ad breaks, generally target males between say 18-40 in social classes A, B and C1 ('middle classes'). League Express quoted figures (I can't remember where from) that showed the percentage of those in that target audience, watching rugby league on Sky, was very low; considerably lower than those watching rugby union.
That's probably more of a concern vis-a-vis future Sky contract renewals than the actual viewing figures. I think Vic Wakeling, when he was the gaffer at Sky Sports, always said they didn't insist the RFL make Super League more cosmopolitan; they weren't ar =#000000sed; but I bet it's the reason why the RFL feels it needs Harlequins and needs to expand - preferably to slightly more affluent areas.
A interesting point to note is that this source LE used claimed the female audience for rugby league is one of the highest for any televised sport - abnormally high.

My figures were based on what a another poster had posted on a previous thread, he quoted the City match.

I wonder what the demograph of live darts is then, is that pulling in the middle classes to appease the advertisers?
Oh, and I realise that the thread's gone somewhent off topic, but obviously the answer to the original post is "players' & coaches' pockets" and that's where that debate ends.

You'd guess it would be similar to rugby league; however it does appeal to cockneys. Again, I can't remember what LE's source was.
