I do actually think Gardner would be a good signing for us. As I've already said though, I would be tad disappointed too. After 65+ pages of hype, I'll be left feeling a tad deflated.

I think we are getting a bit big for our boots expecting wall to wall top class signings. He's still a decent winger, won't score as many tries as he did at Saints, but still fairly solid on and off the pitch. We've been watching Ste Tyrer all year for god sake.

Sorry but I think some on here need a reality check ade has been a mainstay in a very good saints side for years now, and imo can only be a positive signing for us. He has played in several grand finals, been in The dream team and scores tries for fun. Due to our recent recruitment some fans expectation has become a bit silly. So being linked with gardner isn't such a bad thing for me as I'm sure other sides would be pleased to be linked with such a player

Granted, he ain't Andrew Ettingshausen, but I can't agree with any part of your summary at all.
I think he'll do a decent job.

For the money it will cost to get Gardner and to keep him, its just not worth it, especially when we have good potential already at the club. Like Warrington paying way over the odds for Myler. If we have money to spend, then why waste it on a player we don't really need who isn't worth what we will probably be paying him.

People do Gardner the same disservice they did with Daniel Anderson in using the old "I could score tries for Saints" and "I could coach Saints to win things" argument. Those tries still needed scoring and he scored more than most during his time at Saints.

A massive improvement on Tyrer or, from a few years back, "the other" Gardner!!

How on earth do we not need another winger when we've only got 1 recognised winger in next seasons squad at this moment in time?
Top class English wingers are in massively short supply, who would you want to see us try and sign?

I'm also sure a few years back when we signed matt gardner some on here were bemoaning the fact we always sign the poor brother, ...and now youve guessed it some chose to still moan. Some are just never happy. Plus I really don't think we will be breaking the bank on AG wages. Broughton on 1 wing, Ade on the other great thought just need to make sure we have the top class centres to provide the passes now.

Be interesting to see if we do sign Gardner, where Gibson would fit into team next year. As Broughton would be on the other wing with Nero/bailey/Henry/Gleason who can all play position.

Well he is still under contract at Saints.

He will be on a decent wage at Saints so he won't want to step down too much.

We could retain McGilvray or play Gibson on the wing, they are both younger and I thought one of the ideas of the franchise sytem was to develop young players. We can also move Henry out to the wing and play Gleeson or maybe even Ratchford in the centres, so I honestly don't think we need another winger. (Plus we may promote somebody from the reserves)

I'd like to see us sign a starting hooker rather than a top class English winger (we've already got one). The money would be better spent on a hooker rather than Gardner.

Agree with you there we need another Hooker what happens if Latu gets injured? Most teams now have 2 Hookers and would be a mistake not to sign one.

Why do we need another hooker ?
There are only around 10 scrums per game in SL, and the ball never reaches the hooker anyway.
If what you mean is that we need an additional 'number 9' who can play AHB and distribute the ball quickly, then fair enough, (not that I agree).
The term 'hooker' is misleading, out of date and should only be used when referring to certain types of females.

Why not play Ratchford at Hooker!

If we get gardner then Gibson may move into the extra hooking role, he's played there for us before.

Please No) I don't think he's fulfilled his potential yet and I can see him going backwards next year unless Shaun McRae can find a position to make better use of his skills. (Anywhere but Wing, Prop and second row)
