If I was them I’d be asking for a refund. We’ve got an intern at work at the moment from the University of Bath. He told me pays three thousand odd quid a year now for 14hours of lectures a week.
Having seen some of the graduates we get in, and I am talking from top Uni’s (LSE, UCL, Warwick, Oxford etc), who can’t spell, can’t even be bothered using a spellchecker, can’t punctuate or produce credible written material or oral presentations, have no clue about current affairs or politics, show a poor attitude in that they think they know it all from Day 1 and don’t have the work ethic to learn the business from the ground up, then it makes me wonder what is coming out of some of these joke institutions that have sprung up calling themselves Universities.
It is easy to throw the blame at the Government, but the Higher Education establishments do not in my view offer either value for money to their students or prepare them adequately for the workplace.

Sometimes I just do not know what I think. On the one hand I am proud to come from a country with a free press and a degree of transparency in public affairs. On the other we have a publicly funded broadcaster clearly working against the national interests. Then we have corruption with expenses, cash for questions etc at Westminster. It seems that this country likes to project a holier than thou attitude in everything, but I have no doubt when you scratch beneath the surface we’re no better than anyone.
As usual we have the media whipping up a storm about how we’ve got the best bid and at the same time putting out stories that would give Fifa every reason not to give us the World Cup, sick of this country I really am.

A few MP's filling in an extra expense form is alot different from the media effectively being controlled by the state like in Italy and Russia. Britain on the whole is relatively corruption free compared to most states despite the low esteem people hold our politicians in. The Sunday Times and the BBC were completely justified in trying to expose corruption within FIFA and any claim by the Murdoch press/tv to the contrary should be totally ignored. If getting the World Cup means cosying up to Jack Warner, Sepp Blatter and the like than we are better off without it. As for the Beeb working against the national interest how do you define what the national interest is?

Don’t get me wrong I largely agree with you, the whole thing stinks; it’s the hypocrisy I can’t stand. We now have a situation where fifteen million pounds has been spent, the Prime Minister is kissing backsides trying to win favour and we’re left looking like idiots. The corruption of Fifa and the bidding process would have been well known when the decision to bid was submitted, we should have withdrawn our bid citing the reasons or not entered one at all.
I define national interests as something that could have created jobs, brought tourists dollars in and given people something to look forward to. I don’t wish to see shady practises covered up, but their timing of the reporting could have been altered to at least support what little chance we had.
