Catalans have at last uncovered a real French talent at full back. Morgan Escare is a really exciting talent and the best French prospect at full back in decades. He only got promoted because of an injury to Brent Webb (who may be out until August). In my opinion Escare is at least as good a player, probably better, even at this early stage of his career, than Brent Webb. Plus he doesn't have a chip on his shoulder which gets him into fights, nor does he give away penalties, like Brent Webb does. Some may argue that Escare could get injured, and then without Webb what does Catalans do? The answer is: same thing they will do if Escare gets injured before August, which is move Millard to full back, or, if Scott Dureau is back (which he should be in a few weeks), play the best utility back in Super League, Thomas Bosc, at full back. So it seems to me that Webb is an expensive redundancy for Catalans.

There is another bonus for the game in general in that having Escare play full back for Catalans every week can only be good for the French national team (though I know that M. Guasch doesn't care much about that).

Salford on the other hand need some attacking flair, and Brent Webb would provide it for the team. As for his indiscipline, Brian Noble may be the best coach in Britain from the point of getting Webb disciplined.

Koukash has the money to make it happen. This transfer seems to be made in heaven for both clubs.

I am thinking more of 2014, when Webb is still contracted for Catalans. But Webb could still be signed up by Salford for August onwards (so they don't have to carry his salary while he is injured) and make a difference for Salford's performance at the "business end" of this year.

I think I'd rather throw money at Josh Dugan than Brent Webb, personally.

Not a bad idea. Catalans should keep Webb till the end of the season to effectively tutor Escare then would be a great signing for Salford for 2014.

Salford already have a couple of good young English fullbacks who have huge potential in Sneyd and Evalds, the last thing they need is to be wasting money on washed up overseas players.

What would concern me if I was a coach wouldn't be the discipline but more his fitness. His back problems date back 5 years now and he was never the same IMO after the one that ruled him out of the 2008 GF.
