It would seem that Dean Ritchie of the Australian Daily Telegraph doesn't know how to use Google to fact check stories, or he doesn't think that Super League is 'top grade' Rugby League!
Still, interesting potential move in the NRL... you would hope that someone from Manly and the NRL might think to pick up the phone to Widnes & the RFL and ask a few questions before making a decision either way?

As opposed to the well read, uber intelligent, free thinking and weary globetrotters from the north eh?
Londoners know that somewhere north of potters bar, there is a strange mythical game played by the inhabitants of old pit villages.....it's rarely seen on a national basis and the fickle supporters of this game are under the misguided illusion that anyone outside the M62 Corridor, especially the media, really gives a flying one about it...they rarely actually roll up and attend events put on for them and are retiscent to jump on a bus for more than 3 stops to go and actually watch their pit village team.
Australians are also aware of other sports...in fact, they seem to have an unatural fear of a strange game played in the southern areas of their country, where teams are actually rewarded for missing the goal . This game gets more TV money and more fans at games and does seem to make your average NRL fan jumpy to say the least. They do seem to obtain most of their culture form a yoghurt pot, but about 100,000 of them at any one time do travel (to get jobs pulling pints in London) and therefore acknowledge the existence of other places. They too seem to avoid actually attending games in any great numbers.....and have a strange fixation with building stadiums with no roof's and then blaiming the rain for poor attendances.

| $150k to look after a pitch that gets used one day a fortnight? Geez that would be a cushy job!
Didn't you know if it hasn't happened in Sydney it hasn't yet happened?

Funny how it didn't go down to well with some posters

Who else plays on it other than Manly? I know you can walk your dog and let it take a e on it but don't know if that causes much maintainence work?

Didn't the article say it was used 15 hours per week, the maximum it can withstand currently, & the artificial pitch wpuld allow for up to 60 hours? I cant get on the website at the moment to check.

| Seems that the latest article from Dean Ritchie has now taken heed of the many comments saying he was wrong and written this follow up piece - [urlhttp://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/debate-continues-over-artificial-playing-surface-at-manlys-brookvale-oval/story-e6frexnr-1226423831658[/url

Just letting you know that it isn't used once every fortnight as suggested.
Other grades play there. Local comp finals held there. Team Trains there on some days. The council even let there their version of the Easter Show be hold there.
